OEM Bumper Gaurds
We're setting up to paint the bumpers for the '60 and one thing I've meant to get straight was the location of the bumper gaurds. I use to have them mounted in the bumper bolt hole location.
As I understand it the bumper gaurds DO NOT mount in the same holes as the two most center bolts that hold on the bumper. According to MarkB truck they are offset about an inch or so to the outside, see pic. My question is how do you go about drilling the holes in the correct spots and would any special bits be needed. I have oem bumpers that are heavier and thicker than the after market stuff. I figure it's going to be a bear to do it, and wanted to hear from others.

Re: OEM Bumper Gaurds
Maybe you can print this and scale it for width locations?
Here is the thread I got this from, courtesy of LILRED66: Unless you are going for the "factory correct" look it seems logical to do as many others have and mount the bumper guard using the actual bumper bolts. That yields less visible bolts, eliminates the need to drill holes and if you do hit something it pushes directly against the frame horns. Offsetting the bumper guards would equal a bent bumper if you bumped into something.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=bumper+guards Last edited by lakeroadster; 01-21-2011 at 09:48 AM. |

Re: OEM Bumper Gaurds
Gee that was quick (about 5 minutes) thats why I love this BB! I have the Assessory Install Manual, but the sheet of the holes location will help a ton. THANKS I'll print out a bunch and change the size until I feel right about it.

Yeah, this "information age" we live in is scary.... stuff that used to take weeks now takes 5 minutes.

Re: OEM Bumper Gaurds
Post #224 on the attached thread also shows the factory template. I measured the template and the dimension is 3” outboard on center from the bumper bolt to the new hole for the bumper guards, which I have indicated on the drawing.

Re: OEM Bumper Gaurds
Hey Folks,
While researching the issue in my factory accessory guide book, they show a different mount location. According to the book we use the frame and bumer mount holes. See pic.

Re: OEM Bumper Gaurds
Maybe it varies from year to year due to differing frame widths?
