I hate snow!!!!

Well I dont really hate snow so much as I do UPS for halting my delivery at the bartlett UPS hub. Called them thought maybe i can pick it up but no they have to deliver it to the memphis hub then to my house at least once before I can pick it up at will call. So my wonderful weekend of work on my truck is now shot. Had it all planned out was gonna lower my truck now i gotta wait!! GRRRR!!!! I honestly think that all memphis people ought to live up north someplace like where i grew up in Nebraska for at least one winter then theyll think twice about all the freaking out about a couple inches of snow and maybe drive like normal human beings and maybe things might get delivered.

Anyway off my soap box. Anybody else got big plans this weekend???

I'm a 24 year UPS driver, the biggest issue we face with weather is not so much the delivery drivers but all the necessary support folks (loaders, sorters, clerks etc) getting to work. The majority of UPS ground and air shipments move at night, colder temps, more ice, and planes grounded by the FAA. We were recently hit with 12" of snow here and all 100 drivers out of my building were on the street doing the best we could. Some streets were impassable for a 3-4 days. Our average annual snowfall is probably 6" total, getting 12" at once is an issue.

My wife and I spent a week in Pocono Pa last March just a day or so after a huge snowstorm. ALL the roads were clear, side roads, residential roads, main roads, they're prepared for the large amount of snow they receive annually. I swear every pickup truck I passed had a plow on the front. LOL.

Finding your package in one of say 20-30 trailers and each one is loaded with roughly 3000 pieces, well, it ain't happening.

Sorry your weekend got screwed but if its any consolation its happened to me too

I just wanted to clarify I dont blame UPS for doing buisness the way they do I was just aggravated.

As for nebraska yeah most of the farmers have a truck that sits in the shop or yard year round that has a plow attached. thats usually its only purpose too. LOL

Couple years ago where my step mom lives their firetruck hit some ice and slid off into a ditch during a blizzard. Couple weeks later the snow finally melted enough for them to find it again. I still tease her about loosing the firetruck whenever it snows up there.

No No No, I didn't take it that way at all. I just figured you and others might wonder how/why weather causes UPS (and FedEx) problems.

20 or more years ago a really "Old School" manager told me a story about how some Fog got him into serious trouble. The control tower (FAA) wouldn't give one of our planes clearance to land due to heavy fog. The pilot was pretty much circling and waiting. The manager gets on the radio and tells the pilot that he had better land that #@$%^%$#(*&!!! airplane right now. The manager told me some really nice folks from the FAA had a really long meeting with him to explain the facts of life. LOL

Yeah them FAA people dont take kindly to that sort of thing. Kinda like telling a cop to F$%^&* off. Dont really make for a cheap ticket!! LOL I am sure there are a host of things that cause delays in the shipping buisness that we dont see in the big picture and generally they do a pretty good job. Should have my stuf next week and hopefully the weather will be a little nice. Lots easier to heat my garage that way.

I live in memphis, and had the same problem this weekend, waiting for parts and the big snow storm of two inches "White death" hit. Memphis came to a halt. I feel your pain.
