Diesel K10 build

Since I was a kid I wanted a Diesel Blazer. I had kind of given up on finding on then I a 95 S10 Z71 that I had picked up for scrap that had no motor or grill and bumper for sale. A guy called and told me he would give me an 82 K5 with a 6.2l and $100 for the S10. I nearly jerked his arm off getting the keys.
It is rough and has a lot of rust but is sitting on a (I think)4 inch lift and has a bad injector pump. It has changed hands so many times in the past few years without being titled I had a friend of mine who is a cop run the VIN and it all came back clean.

My neighbor is a diesel mechanic who owes me money so I am going to get him to fix the motor for what he owes me.

Here is the Blazer when I brought it home. I also found out it is a K10 not a K5.

Lots of rust. Nearly no floor on drivers side. And at some point some genuis painted the whole truck lights, glass, and all.

Re: Diesel K10 build

Today I talked to a guy in SC who has this truck I am going to go pick up Friday. He is keeping the axles but I am bringing the rest home. I am going to pull the body off this and put it on my Diesel frame. No motor trans or transfer case

If the tan truck is in good shape I will bring it home and probably will put the 79 front end on it. I like that sheet metal better.

Re: Diesel K10 build

K5 is a badge on the side of the truck, nothing more.

K (or V) 10 (or 1500) means a 4WD, 1/2 ton truck, including Blazer/Jimmy, Suburban, and pickup. The letter and numbers change by year.

69-87 are C (2WD) and K (4WD). Possibly 67 and 68 as well, donno.

88-91 are R (2WD) and V (4WD) for Burbs, Blazer/Jimmy, and sixpack pickups (old body style), and C/K for single cab pickups (new body style.)

GMC changed to 1500/2500/3500 earlier than Chevy, forget when. This is all on my History Of The Blazer page and is largely listed as "GM is silly."

http://www.slosh.com/cars/blazer.html

Blazers and Jimmies only ever came as 10/1500 (1/2 ton); Suburbans up to 20/2500 (3/4) and pickups through 30/3500 (1 ton).

In short, K5 == K10 == V10 == K1500 == V1500.
and they Never made a Z71 s10, Just a ZR2 . Good luck with your body swap I just did a 1977 Impala Coupe to a 94 Caprice police car frame. It sucks without a lift..lol My brother lives in Shelby too.

Well that answers my head scratching question as to the difference.

I am not in Shelby any me I am in the big metropolis of Crouse. (Maybe *I should change that) I was in Shelby for about 22 years so there is an off chance that I know him.

Re: Diesel K10 build

At midnight last night I came dragging in with my latest prize. I figured the truck would have rust somewhere but this one is surprisingly rust free. Has one small spot of surface rust on the tailgate and the drives side rain gutter has some. Other than that the body is great.

Back glass is good it is just rolled down.

Good old red clay not rust.

Had to redneck the tail lights since the scrap yard loader killed mine on the trailer.

Cool project and nice score on the tan blazer! That should make a great truck when done!
