steering
well for some history i am building a 67 with a cummins diesel, 2?" drop spindles and 2-3" coils? they were in it when i bought it... but anyways... as it sits now my stock steering isnt going to cut it. the inner tierod will hit with any little bump.... i have been looking at mustang/t bird R&P and dakota ones too.
i have searched and searched but havnt been able to find much info, is there a way to make my stock parts work or should i go with a rack and pinion. also does the mustang R&P has a shorter stroke? just need some advice thanks. PS. it wil be on bags once i get it running and what not, so it will go lower. but where it sits is where i want my ride height. |

If you plan to bag it and need a R&P, you should consider a lowered crossmember. That will give you what you need in one bolt in package. Check with Porterbuilt or Scotts to see if that fits your needs. Currently, Rob at No Limit Engineering is designing a kit to bolt a R&P to your stock set up. Yet another choice from our awesome Forum Vendors

ill make my own before i buy a kit... why start now. the only problem with a dropmmber is with my motor choice i will not even be able to lay the x member so i would asume that is kinda usless for me besides the R&P mounts.
also my motor mounts are from my x member and my pan is .75" from it. dont know if the drop members sit higher..? im going air to suport the cummins more so than to get low so not to worries bout harsh angles. my only problem so far is my stock steering is maxed at my ride height, and need to make everything happy. my idea is to either go R&P for the tight feel and compact design or stick with the box and linkage and drill out my spindle/tap and run a heim joint on the bottom side. In the second picture,... it looks like the inner tie rods are installed backwards.
They should be "behind" the centerlink. This makes me believe the centerlink is also installed backwards. Install these parts correctly and your problem is solved.

hmm.... ya that would have solved all problems lol but i got my dakota R&P on now....
whats factory lock to lock measure on our trucks.... myR&P is a 5.75" stroke. i think im going to lose some turning radius... ill get a pic of my install, i think it turned out well. also what is the spindle taper, is it a 2" per foot or a 1.5"/foot? i need to try and get my tierod end/rod end on the bottom side of my spindle how should i go bout doing this? any easy way?
