Guess what followed me home from Illinois?

My newest project .... a friend and I took Monday off and drove 450 miles one way just east of Decatur Il. Got plated today , so the evil neighborhood gistapo agents won't send me a letter in the mail tomorrow , but I would not doubt that I get one anyways...got it running tonight .. needed a choke pull off and some carb adjusting / timing set ...
I think the guy was bummed when I jumped in and it fired (after rewiring the distributor and yanking it around to put some advance in it ) I have a feeling he messed with this truck for sometime and could not get it to run....... I had to get it running because there was snow in front of the door and there was no way I could back my truck to it to tow it out with out getting stuck .... Rally wheels , new tires and a 350 I am guiessing with a Q jet and HEI... I was real hesitant to buy it because he said he replaced a freeze plug it the rear of the engine ,I thought "bet it has been froze before" and it was empty on coolant .. I did put some antifreeze in it till it ran out the gooseneck... and I am thinking after hearing a bit of pump noise from the trans I think it needs more fluid .. so I called it quits for tonight , it was 28 with a 12 degree wind chill.....

Re: Guess what followed me home from Illinois?

Well Delmo , .. My other 63 is in my shop now getting floorboards etc .. my plans for that one is fix and drive ...til that one is done that is the plan with this one .. after 63 # 1 is out of the shop this one goes in and gains 2 more doors .. I have a spare cab and length of frame behind the shop and it has been there for a while , so now I have no excuses.... Yes I have wanted a 63 crew cab for years .....

Yeah I was searching craigslist and Feebay for the last 6 months ,this one was one Feebay and sold but the bidder flaked on the guy .. Moral of the story , always make contact with anyone selling the truck you want so if the deal goes bad they might call you .. I think I have bought 50 percent of all my junk that way .. From dozers tractors and back hoes to you name it ...

Yeah , I used to cut out swap and sell ads from a weekly guide in Maine and stick them to my wall .. A guy had a back hoe that needed a casting for the trans .. I called him after some time ,I think he wanted 1500 for it .. I called him and he said "that was in there 3 months ago " long pause , I said "you still have it ?" he says yup ........................... bought it for 300.00....

You chained it to the back of your truck? Haven't you seen National Lampoon's Vacation?

Poor little guy...probably kept up with ya for a mile or so. Tough little mutt. Sweet truck by the way!

Wink Re: Guess what followed me home from Illinois?

You"ll laugh , but that tow bar was sitting in my garage since I towed my other 63 chevy in from Maine behind a Ryder truck..
(The year was 2000 if I remember right ) not too many vehicles can be towed with a towbar any more .......... @Alan .. I may go out to the garage tonight swap carbs ,then I should be able to drive it to work .. That is after I put the heater back together...

Re: Guess what followed me home from Illinois?

thanks for the inspiration with the crew cab brochures... but I better get 63 # 2 on the road first and finish 63 #1 before I start on that prject.... I think the OMS crew cab looks the best , I like it when they shorten the rear doors , just makes it all look right ..

I love the 63. 1st year for the coil springs and parallel frame, last year for the wrap around windshield.

There is SOME neat stuff in the Silver Book, but it really depends on what turns your crank! I mean who really cares about Garbage Truck Bodies.
The Custom Accessories Book as well as the Accessories installation Manual makes me happy most of the time! Then again any literature is easy on the eyes.

Nice grill by the way!

Re: Guess what followed me home from Illinois?

funny...there's a 63 ambulance in one of the junkyards back home. Has the door on the passenger side, slightly extended back area, and a metal divider between the front and rear portion.

...to bad the owner of the junkyard is a fat lazy sack of sh*t who won't bother to help a customer and make some money. As you can tell he runs one of those shady yards.

None, right now!

I'm hoping to be done with my build by the end of June, and there should be some time before the next project (AWD 2010 Camaro).

We might be able to setcha up.
