383/700r4 anyone Running IT?
blew up the 700r4 last night.
Buddy has a beefed up corvette 700 he had in another truck, I'm getting it super cheap and he's helping me get it in this weekend. The 350 I have is in decent shape. But at this point, I've pretty well gotten comfortable with the fact that I am going to have to replace EVERYTHING on this truck. So naturally, I am looking at engines. There's a guy in a town down the road that I've met thats got a built 383 in his 82 Silverado he's selling. ($750 asking) My question is, 383 wont have any problems swapping straight into where the 350 was right? Anyone running a 383/700 combo? Any issues? I'd rather not have to have the engine/transmission out more than once. As usual- thanks for the help guys. hope everyone had a great valentines day. |

383 will drop right in. Shouldn't have any issuse. You may have to relocat ethe crossmember, but the driveshaft may even work, depending on the tailshaft length on your TH350.

The 383 is a 350 bored .030" over that uses a 400 crank, essentially. Outside, it's exactly the same as a 350. It will bolt in just like yours did. Sounds like a good combo as long as the 700-R4 is beefed up a little. Those things tend not to like torque in heavy doses.

Re: 383/700r4 anyone Running IT?
I have a 383 mounted to the front of a 700 R4 that has been worked over a lot. We (my tranny guy and myself) put in heavy duty clutch packs, sun gear and planetary sets. The valve body has been reworked with a shift kit and hardened seperator plates. I presently do NOT have a lockup converter in the truck, but I do run a 2400 stall unit, to make up for the cam in the stroker engine. I have eaten up a couple pumps in the tranny, but the last one we put in, was hardened and it should stand up to more than the cheaper ones did.

Re: 383/700r4 anyone Running IT?
we shall see...
I've still gotta see the 383. the 700 is a burly corvette 700 with updated servo, gov, packs, etc. it was behind a built 350 F.I. for a few miles so i think I should be cool. (not cool, but keep it together for a while...) |
