Fusible links ?

I was finally looking into what I fried when my jumper cables melted and came across these...
Are these my fusible links?

Those white things i call inline fuses... i call fusable links the black things that are like melted onto the wire... i dropped my alternater once with out unhooking the battery like i should've and i blew a fuseable link up near the brake master cyl. it had one wire going into a fusable link then it split to two wires. someone might've replace those fusable links with those inline fuses... the inlines just twist and you can look at the fuse in the middle to see if its blown.. dont know if this helps...

Thanks. The fuses look ok but I am changing them anyway but I was trying to figure out where the fusible links were that I was told to check. These are all that I can find.

Ok see that thing on the fire wall with one wire coming in on the left and two going out the right side? Well if you follow the right side red wire it should go to a fuseable link... then split into two wires, that is the one i blew .. but if not check both ways of that thing...

The fuseable links are right there at the juction block on the firewall and down at the starter.If I remember correctly there's one between the starter and junction block, one between the starter and alt, and one between the junction block and fuse box. i could have a few of those mixed up though.

Yes, there are 1 or 2 fusible links there if memory serves. As has been said, there are 2 down at the starter also. At least that's how they are on my '73 K20.

The ones near that junction block on mine are encapsulated in a clear rubber cylinder like you see here on the left side. You can't see that it is clear because it is so dirty...



You can also feel the wires. Basically, they are wires that are smaller gauge than the wire they're protecting with rubbery insulation. The insulation is different in order to prevent the wire from catching on fire when it fries. Feel around those areas and you might see the wire kinda burned or feel the wires broken on the inside. You can get replacements at the local parts stores.

Just make sure to get the correct sizes for the wires you are protecting.

I was putting in 2 new amber turn signal lenses and bulbs when I heard a small noise coming from somwhere. Suddeny my entire 1967 C10 has no power. Not a darn bit of power. I figured it must be a fusible link or the junction box. Then it got dark and I gave up until tommorrow. Took the positive cable off for the night. Never had that happen before. Felt like I was in that Close Encounters movie of years ago.

Where are all these things located would be nice to know when I go hunting tommorrow with my Amprobe meter.

fusible links, as stated, are a smaller wire than primary being used. for example, a 14 gauge wire would use a 16 or 18 gauge wire about 3" long. can be located most anywhere within length of wire. this keeps power shorts contained so the whole system is not destroyed. check smaller wire that runs from positive battery cable to junction box for one location that can shut everything down,
