Please help with a swap problem....
Hey guys, i recently bought a 85 with a 5.3 swap into it. Im having an issue that is somewhat unique and i couldnt find an answer to what i needed with searching the site.
i need a motor mount that will raise the motor up a bit higher in the engine compartment and create a bit more clearance between the ground and the oil pan. Im going to post pictures of the mounts that are currently on the truck, can anyone reccomend a swap mount that will help me with my issue and raise the motor a bit higher in the compartment. It appears these mounts are about as low as it can be.... I could fabricate a set, but to be honest, i dont really want to have them out of the truck for that long, i was hoping to swap them in a single day. thanks in advance for the help! Taylor |

Would it be easier to use a different/shorter oil pan?

Well, that was my inital thought, but being that i just do not know anything about this kind of stuff.... i will ask this...
Can i do an oil pan swap with the motor in the truck? I dont really want to have to pull the motor at all... thanks for the help. Taylor |

I got that same search, but none of them answered my question, nor does that link you posted up... unless i missed somewhere...
I know i can swap out the oil pan to a shorter one, but what i wanted to know was can i do it while its in the truck still without removing the motor? Taylor |

Im bringing this tread up to the top to get a few more answers on some things....
That pan posted above... is it the shortest oil pan i can run on the 5.3 motor? I would like one that was closer to 7.5 deep at max. any ideas?

the F body pan is 5inches deep
check out the link below, all of the dimensions are listed and should help, one thing that boggles my mind is that the brand new prices for the f body kit compared to the muscle car kit is a diff of about 150.00 but yet the muscle pan uses more material?? supply and demand is my guess, but here is the link to the pan dimensions --> http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conver...-oil-pans.html Kev |

You could look at dirtydingo.com i am using there adjustable mounts. They lift the engine up a 1/2 inch they say. My oil pan clears my front crossmember buy about a half inch but i have a 4x4 so not sure if it will fix your problem.

Well, i fixed this engine mount issue. I ended up just building all new mounts because the previous owner had enlarged the hole in the current mount with a plasma cutter apparently because it was all ovalled and barely hanging on.... so i just re-did all of it, raised them and it solved the problem easily.
Im having a new issue. And im hoping its as easy as im thinking..... I finally got everything in place and fired up the motor... i was very relieved because i had to cut apart the wire harness and replace some bad splices and extend it a bit as well, but aside from that, it fired right up idled smooth, and reved good. I was happy. I let it idle in the garage for a while, shut it off and called it a night. The next day i came out and fired it up again... it idled fine as normal, but this time when i step on the throttle, it almost dies completely, and just completely falls on its face... and almost stalls, it sounds like its gasping for air or something like that and just nearly dies and wont recover untill i let off the gas then it comes back to life and idles fine. It seems very odd to me really... because it was fine the previous day. The only thing that was changed between now and then was i shut the hood, and there is obviously a bit less fuel in the tank.... Im trying to avoid filling the tank since it will be going off to paint in a few days, and it will all be taken apart again.... This dosent seem like a terribly complicated issue, im just hoping for some reassuring points in the right direction. Taylor

I will check that, but nothing has been un-plugged since it was fired before, so i cant imagine it was that, but i will check it.
It almost seems like when i put the pedal down its trying to get gas but it just cant get it for some reason. Taylor

I feel so stoopid. It was just that absolutely low on gas. Great way to find out your gas gauge dosent work.
Added some fuel, fired right up, accelerates and is good to go!
