Will this fuel filler hose make two 90s? Tail light gas door build.

Hey guys I am attempting to install my hidden gas filler behind the tail light. It is a work in progress but I need your guys input.

First thing first.

Will this fuel filler hose make 2 90s in order to go into my fuel cell or do you al think it will kink?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GTR-58524/

Hose Size 1 1/2 in.
TeflonŽ Lined No
Hose Length (ft) 4.000
Outer Material Synthetic rubber
Hose Inside Diameter (in) 1.500 in.

It's also reinforced with synthetic fabric and steel wire to prevent collapsing or kinking.

It is pricey as hell! I need 4 feet of 1.5 ID in order to make this project work. The first 90 will be coming off of my filler neck which will be located behind the tail light which is 3" diameter by .08" thick. Base pipe 1.5" diameter.

I'm only going to be able to go 5 inches before making a hard 90. Think it will work?

if it was up to me I wouldn't use the rubber hose. I would go to my local muffler shop and ask them to bend a tube for me if I had to do that many bends and then maybe use a piece of rubber hose to attack the filler neck and hose together. JMO

If you have a Napa store near you they have a real flexable hose like that and its cheaper ! I used it on my tanks ,

I've thought of that exact same thing! Just wasn't sure how to go about it. A muffler shop would be a good source to look into for stainless piping. In fact I could get them to weld me a flange that would bolt directly to the filler neck and seal it with a rubber gasket. Then I could just use one short hose to attach that 'filler tube' to the fuel cell. It is a strait shot to the fuel cell inlet so that would be a piece of cake! Thanks! Good call!

I'll have to look into that as well. As long as the ID is 1.5 to match the filler neck that sounds good to me! Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question but please do a detailed write up on this mod if you don't mind. I would love to do this with mine.

I also have one of there fuel cells installed in my truck. Only mine had to havea custom filler coming out of the rear of the fuel cell instead of through the bed. This prevents me from having to cut a hole in my bed. That is only if my gas door idea works.

you can also go to your local autoparts store and get pre bent 90's and cut them down to what you need.
its pretty easy to turn a 90 into a 45 or a 22

That size is common on boats, too. You might cehck into some marine sites as well.

Look for a "performance" type muffler shop that has mandrel bends. That will give you a lot less restriction than standard bends.

Check out the fuel filler products from Hagan Street Rods. They have a better looking fuel cap system. http://www.haganauto.com/fuel_doors_gas_lid_s/5.htm

I've been looking into doing this also but I don't have the time it requires. Here is a version that I was going to adapt. But beware! It's on a old FORD. I just like the fact that it slides out and it's held by a claw style latch. It should be very easy to adapt.

You know... I never thought of that... That is a dang good idea!

Man I like the idea of that hinge and latch. Checked out there website and it would only be like $30 for both. I bet I could make them work! Cool!

Door latch $10

Door hinge $20

If it worksi t will be a great investment! Thanks I've never even heard of these guys!

Not sure If I'm sold on the gas cap.... I'll have to think about that one... It would be pretty handy in a tite spot such as behind the tail light because this cap does not need to be removed in order to fill your gas tank.

I'll have to think about this one.

I was thinking of using a pop up style gas cap like on custom motorcycles like this one. It's just an example. There is a lot to choose from. Sorry that pic is huge.

Re: Will this fuel filler hose make two 90s? Tail light gas door build.

That hose won't kink because it is fabric and steel wire reinforced but it also won't be able to make really tight bends. I am right in the middle of tail light gas door mod(pics can be seen in my build thread) and I am going to have an exhaust shop bend me up my connector. It takes a little more work to make sure you tell them the right angles and lengths but in the end it will fit better then a large bend radius hose.
