Blazer Gas Tank In A 62?

Has anyone used the Blazer gas tank conversion in a 60-62? I had a 63 that I put the Blazer tank in and it was one of the best things I did to the truck, got the tank out of the cab while getting rid of the rusty 50 year old tank that needed replacing anyway. CPP and the other parts suppliers list the Blazer gas tank conversion for 63 to 66 trucks but not for the 60-62, is there a reason for this? Frame rails diffrent? The 62 i just bought needs the tank replaced in it and id like to use the blazer tank but I was wondering if there was something different about the earlier frames that would prevent me from using it. Has anyone used a different tank that would work on a 62? Just trying to figure out my options.

Re: Blazer Gas Tank In A 62?

The frames on the '60-'62's are wider than the '63 and up trucks. I haven't installed a tank in the rear of one, so I don't know for sure if there may be a crossmember that needs to be moved. Sorry I'm not more help.....here's a bump for ya....

I read somewhere on here that somebody used a '62 Suburban in thier Fleetside.

I shoe horned a fuel cell in my '62 Stepside which is not stock.

Rear mount gas tank?

Re: Blazer Gas Tank In A 62?

Thanks for the help 1Bad62, the links you posted have tons of ideas. I read for hours last night about all the different options that are out there. Basing it strictly from a budget standpoint the fuel cell from jegs or summit would be the way to go, my only issue with a fuel cell is that it looks like it would take up space in the bed and i really want to be able to use the bed as much as possible. I think the blazer tank would work fine on the 62 with some minor mods like moving the crossmember and making a few brackets to get everything to bolt up, but i think with this truck i just want to keep things as simple as possible. After looking at everything im seriously considering just buying a brand new stock type tank for behind the seat. LMC has them for around $150 plus shipping, just bolt it in and go, no fab work, no headaches, and i can use the stock sending unit. It will be a week or two before i decide exactly what i want to do, I have a pretty good idea of where i want to go with this truck but havent nailed down the specifics yet. Please keep the ideas coming, and THANKS!

Re: Blazer Gas Tank In A 62?

I actually found one today less than 20 minutes from my house for 50 bucks! I stuck an ad on Craigslist and the guy that had it texted me last night and said it was a tank he had taken out of a customers truck because he wanted the tank under the bed. I checked the tank out and it was clean as a pin so I brought it home, along with a set of rear Jeep TJ springs he had laying around that i picked up for $20 more bucks. I still might want to pick up the tank from you 1Bad62, to have for a spare. Are you close to where they have the Charlotte Auto Fair? Will you be going next month?

Yep. I am an hour away bud. I may go to the Charlotte Auto Fair if nothing comes up. But if I don't get a chance Bud you can ride down. I have a lot of other stuff for sale off my truck as well. Check my signature link. I hope to have my truck up an running soon. You can check her out. The weather will be perfect at the carshow if it doesn't rain. Me and pops want to start going to cruse-ins and carshow soon. Check on the North and South Carolina side for a list of carshows and cruse-ins in our neck of the woods.
