Need info on parts swaps-66GMC to 62 Chevy

Going to be pulling some things from a 66 GMC to use on my 62 Chevy, want to make sure what fits first. the GMC has a 305v6 with the bigger gas tank, but was always on propane from day 1, so I want the bigger tank. I need the whole e-brake set-up, looks the same. Outside heater box looks the same. I need a steering box and column, but the GMC is 1/2 ton 2wd, my 62 is 1/2 ton 4x4. And door handles, are they the same. They look the same from the outside.
Also, if anyone is needing some things, I can take pics this weekend, and check prices for you, he's pretty reasonable, just got the truck for the 305.

Thanks.

Re: Need info on parts swaps-66GMC to 62 Chevy

I’m not an expert but believe the larger tank will fit in any 60-66 since the back of the cab is the same. The e-brake handle at the dash should work, but I believe the mechanism on the frame is different because the 60-62 is an X frame with torsion bars up front, and the 63-66 is an open ladder style with a different style of connection near the transmission. Some of the heater parts may interchange, but again I believe the firewall opening is different between 60-62 and 63-66. Inside and outside door handles are identical, except the early models, or perhaps just the GMC’s have gray knobs instead of black. Hopefully if any of this is incorrect someone else will jump in.

Re: Need info on parts swaps-66GMC to 62 Chevy

heater breakdown is 60-63, then 64-66 they are different.
pretty sure 2x4, and 4x4 steering boxes are different.
the column, and the way it mounts in the cab is different. interchange on that is 60-62, then 63-66. the brake/clutch pedal mount, and where the column mounts to it are different because of the switch to mechanical clutch in 63.
the 60-62 has a 2 piece column shaft, and the 63-66 is a 1 piece.

66 actually had a 1 year only e brake under the frame, was different than all the previous years. dash portion should be the same.

all this stuff could be made to work, but will not be a direct bolt on.

Re: Need info on parts swaps-66GMC to 62 Chevy

Thanks ya'll. I figured someone had all that info rattling around in their head. My 62 has no e-brake at all, so maybe I can make this one work. Thanks again.
