Track bar question

Which track bar is best? I am gonna drop my truck a few inches but 4" at most.

I see CPP has 2, 1 is just a straight bar and the other is a curved bar and attaches to the trailing arm I think.

Does someone make a better one? are they pretty much all the same?

What do you have and what is your drop?

Re: Track bar question

A lot of guys here on the site really like the Early Classic bars. They've got some some nice pieces, and I have been told that their customer service is excellent also.

I plan on using them when I get to that point.

Re: Track bar question

The most economical adjustable track bar I have found is the Early Classic bar, as mentioned above. It is $59, here is a link, (click in the options box for the 65-72 model) EC Track Bar

You do not need a Super Track Bar, it is considerably more money and while it is a better design, in reality for most of us the function of the track bar works just fine with the 24" bar.

Might I suggest you first drop your truck, then inspect to see if you really even need a new track bar? Yes, when you lower the truck the rear end will move toward the passenger side, about 3/8". But depending upon your actual set-up (tire to fender clearance) this may not be an issue. The original suspension was designed to accomodate this, no need to change to the other track bar unless their is an issue on your truck.

My truck is dropped 5 inches, it has the stock track bar. Nothing rubs, no clearance issues, nadda. I bought new bushings for the existing stock track bar.

Think of it this way, if your tire to fender, or tire to frame, clearances are very tight you don't want the rear axle moving back and forth much during suspension travel. If you have some space, it isn't a big deal.

Re: Track bar question

Thanks alot guys for the info, I have a 72 5 lug 12 bolt under my truck, also I was thinking if I am doing the rear suspension, I might as well do the tackbar too, I have to replace the bushing in the stock one anyway.

Lakeroadster,
would it be ok to have the adjustable one anyway since I have to spend 25.00 on new bushings anyway?

Re: Track bar question

True, but whichever way you so you will pay shipping, so shipping is kind of a push. It's all good, though, right?

Re: Track bar question

since we're on the subject of track bars i have a question on (stock) bars that i hope someone can answer.when i purchased my truck someone had heated the springs and the tracking bar to lower it,i have put stock springs back under it and of course the tracking bar was heated and bent.

my question is a friend of mine has a bar from a 61 short step and mine is a 63 long fleet now are these the same length bars used from the factory.mine is bent so far that i feel my measurements will be off.the one in the 61 is 32".

My stock 65 track bar is 24" from c/l to c/l.

Based on this link EC Track Bar 60-62 are the same and 63-64 are the same and 65-72 are the same.

And CPP sells a 60-62 kit and a 63-72 kit.

Evidently there was a design change when the frame was revised from the X type and the 63-72 bars were shortened to 24".
