INTRODUCTION (w/ pics!) + 3rd door lock question
Hi all! Just joined after many years of lurking. I'll let the pics speak for themselves, then answer questions...
-=> My 3rd door question is something I've tried to find the answer to forever...my burb's 3rd door lock knob is located on the hinge side, not the door handle side (as all known pics and diagrams show) ...what's the deal? I've got to replace all the locking hardware and it's tough to make sure catalog stuff will be applicable to our big blue ox's weird door. the burb and just-finished pop-up trailer: and my 1969 C20 longbed stepside (68 front end and disc brakes!): |

Re: INTRODUCTION (w/ pics!) + 3rd door lock question
Welcome to the best place on the net for Chevy trucks!
What specifically are you having an issue with on the 3rd door lock? All of them had the push button on the hinge side, and there are long rods that actuate the lock on the latch. None of those rods, nor clips are reproduced. (people may say they have the clips, but rerpo clips are either too small or too large. They need to be perfect fits, otherwise the mechanism will be sloppy). Believe me, I spent the better part of a year hunting for these little parts. Plus, putting it together is a bit of a challenge. Though the big truck book has a good diagram of how it is installed. Cool pop up by the way! I had to take a second look at it to get the whole theme. Share some more pictures of your burb and that cool pop up!

Re: INTRODUCTION (w/ pics!) + 3rd door lock question
thanks for the info; am I crazy about LMC, etc., diagrams having the push-button on the other end of the door then? (always a possibility) Either way, it's good to know that it's not just me failing to find that stuff. next step: making something? hmm

Re: INTRODUCTION (w/ pics!) + 3rd door lock question
Hah! I know the Summit In! I-15 Cajon pass. Spent many mornings there having breakfast with my Dad and the burb when I was a kid, back when the Victor Valley was dark at night.
Awesome set up with that pop up rig, and a BMW MC painted the same color as the burb? sweet! So on your 3rd door situation... Are you missing the guts, particularly the locking rods? If so, I already asked a member on here if on his parts burb if he still had that stuff and he does. So, if you are in need - send me a PM.

Re: INTRODUCTION (w/ pics!) + 3rd door lock question
you guys are awesome! PM sent, vectorit! I'm installing power door locks also; anyone have an opinion on a good mounting point for the actuators?
my front door panels are ivory, with PO's black spray paint job on top, so every nick shows-thru white. rear panels are stock blue, so I'm changing the fronts to match. If anyone has blue front driver-quality panels, lmk, or if anyone wants my black/ivory ones, come and get 'em. again, thanks all. I'm starting a quirky pop-up rental business here in Long Beach, so the pop-up trailer was a 13 month project wherein I kept sending drawings (and money!) to 2 guys 500mi away and they built it according to plan! ...here's a link to that build: pop-up build |

Re: INTRODUCTION (w/ pics!) + 3rd door lock question
the button is to the front of the door so you can open the passenger front door and easily reach the lock button. Try reaching the back of the back door from the front seat or from outside the truck.
If you look, all 4 door cars with push button locks were done like this. |
