hydraulic clutch

HELP i converted my 63 c-10 to hydraulics using a wildwood 260-1304 master cylinder. i cant get enough throw out of the slave cylinder (1 in. need 2in.) to disengage the clutch. any ideas short of going back to a manual linkage?

Re: hydraulic clutch

have you tried re-bleeding it? seems you should get sufficient throwout dist with the mc.

Re: hydraulic clutch

Mater63...
The slave cyl on that '63 is a thirsty one.
When I put a hydro-boost on my '63 K1000 I started with a new clutch MC off of a Wrangler.....because it was all that I could find that would fit next to the new hydro-boost.
Like you know....not enough volume. So.....Don't be laughing at me....
But I did a temporary di-section of the old side by side set-up.
It still works fine....and I havn't found a replacement with adequate bore & stroke to do the job. So it is still there.
I just don't pop the hood to show off the hydro-boost all that often.

Was that one big reservoir before? If so, what did you seal it with to prevent fluid leaks....Dude, I'd be proud of that, nothing to hide.

Re: hydraulic clutch

i had the same trouble. if im not mistaken it has a 3/4 bore , and so does the clutch slave . you have to have a bigger one . i put the 1 in bore in mine . im not saying yours is wrong because alot of people get away with running that one , but we are not so lucky lol

Re: hydraulic clutch

If you want more throw, you need to make the master a larger bore, or make the slave a smaller bore.

Re: hydraulic clutch

It sounds like you need a larger bore master for the size of the slave cylinder you are using. You want the bore of the master to be equal to or slightly larger than the bore of the slave cylinder. IMO having them both the same size bore works best. The largest bore available for the Wilwood 260-1034 is .750". If you need a 1" bore, you will have to go with the Wilwood 260-6766.
In the power brake conversion kits I sell for the '60-'62's, I include either a 260-6766 or a 260-6764, depending on the slave cylinder being used.

Re: hydraulic clutch

How do we figure know which slave cylinder bore size we have?

I replied to your PM regarding the purchase and this question.

The best would be to remove the slave cylinder and actually measure the bore size. If it is an original style '60-'62 slave cylinder, it should have a bore of 1-1/16"

Re: hydraulic clutch

well I can tell you first hand that some kit may offer the throw but will bottom out the hyd master. SO not the way to go. well maybe if you dont care if the clutch master gets damaged. If the linkage is not hooked up correctly you are going to limit travel or over trave the throw. Without a few pics or at least more info on the rest of the set up. I had to alter the location of the road and angle on the hyd master. Now all is good.

Re: hydraulic clutch

I just built this setup yesterday - but I won't be able to let you know if it works for another few weeks.
