Found: Blazer hard top; what' s it worth?

My wife has a 1972 Blazer which used to be a beautiful truck. Thanks to someone who thought a DUI was fun, it needs a bunch of new parts.

Unfortunately the truck has been sitting outside for several years, but we're looking to start working on it soon. I'd like to get some sort of a top for the truck to keep the elements out. She'd like to find a bikini top for summer but I can't find anything online so I may have to design something. For winter I'm thinking about a hard top and I think I may have found one.

The owner and I chatted for a while and he mentioned that tops in good condition can sell for between $1500-2000. This top is NOT in good condition. It has a roof-rack that'll probably need to be removed and re-caulked so it won't leak and I'm sure the aftermarket moon-roof will need new seals. There are several cracks in the fiberglass. This thing is HEAVY! (I hear there are two kinds of tops (single and double walled).

The owner told me to make an offer and I'm not sure I want to spend more than $500 on a top right now, but I'd like the opinion of the forum, what do you guys think this thing is worth?

If the lift gate is in good condition inside and out.... No cracks!! And hardware not rusted, I would say about $350.00 The value is in the lift gate if it is good. Everything else I would toss. Too expencive to repair. You can find better for less money. WES

I agree with Wes. That is a single wall top-tell tale dome lights. Doubles don't have them, keep looking. Good hatches are hard to come by. Even real good ones will probably require rework to make new again. Good luck!

The sunroof would be a deal-breaker for me, unless you really like that.

Agreed, Sunroof kills it, if Hatch is flawless $350 (Not a penny more)

Re: Found: Blazer hard top; what' s it worth?

Run don't walk away from that one. I've never seen or heard of a top in good condition selling for 1500-2000. I've seen/heard of multiple tops being given away, yes these needed some work but they were fixable. This particular top looks like it needs major work, looks like all the seams are cracked, the luggage carrier holes and the sunroof that most don't want. Yes, a single wall will get more money than a double wall. It appears no one makes the correct side glass rubber for the single walls, seen several discussions on this here on the board. Even in "good cond." these tops all need some work, depending on how nice a top you want eventually. I agree with the above, wouldn't pay more than 350 with an absolutely perfect lift gate and all the mounting hardware. And that's only because no one makes a repop lift gate that actually fits. And again, absolutely perfect would only be if it was just refurbished to like new. Problem with fiberglass is it degrades/cracks/chips over time.

Right on my K5 Brothers! Anybody got comments on what is better- single wall or double? Like my double, but it will need rework to make new again! This has always been a problem area for these restos, but it can be done!

Here is a link. There is an upholstery shop and one of our board member helped designed one.

Re: Found: Blazer hard top; what' s it worth?

That top isn't worth much honestly. I don't think I'd even pay $50 for that. I see good tops go from $100-400...never ever seen a top go for $1000 before..even a mint top/hatch is AT MOST $400 from what I've found.

Keep looking around, or make a half top or canvas top.
