Stepside Tailgate Trunions
What is the purpose of the slot in the trunion?

I am not 100% positive, but when I replaced my trunions. I put a screwdriver through a small hole in the bottom of the tailgate, below the trunion, into the slot in the trunion, to keep it from turning when removing the trunion bolt. Usually in most cases the originals are rusted.
