New Truck! I need opinions.

Should I buy this truck for $500.00 ? All it needs is a fuel pump the guy said! And the motor is new? I mean it's still got the valve cover stickers on it! And intake is still painted! So your thoughts?!

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

I'd buy it quick!....the 454 is worth $500 alone...could be a cool truck too fixed up, a little rough but who cares..wish I could find deals like this....they'd want $2000 for that up here!

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

Goodwrench 454, decent fiberglass fenders and a full floating rearend. Worth well more than the asking price, IMHO.
Hell yeah, snatch that one up!

Pull motor and trans both from the dually. Use the mounts, radiator, and shroud from the dually. It all bolts right into your half ton. That said, as expensive as gas is I would think twice before putting it in anything I would drive with any frequency.

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

Depending on what gears are in the half ton, it might not be too bad on fuel.

What's funny? That's a full floater, either a 14-bolt or Dana 70, with a sway bar, probably has one up front, too...

Only about the toughest rearend you can have in a truck.

I'd swap your '86 cab and front clip to this 1-ton chassis, you'll have an incredible work truck.

My 86 is just too clean I'd do it if it weren't what it is!

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

The parts & engine alone are worth more than $500!!!! Buy it! Rust is pretty rough, but it's easy to get new panels.

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

I went and waisted 4 hours to look at a single cab dually last night in almost the SAME condition. They lady was firm on $900 and wouldnt budge at all. For $500, if you have the time and ability to restore it. I say yes pick it up.

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

Was thinking if just put body filler on the rust and bed liner on the whole exterior of it! And just drive it! I am getting it soon though I don't plan on doing much to it

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

Pfft, if I had time and money to fix it up a bit, I would. In a heartbeat, and I even detest shortbed, single-cab duallies. They just aren't my cup of tea, but you leave the rust on there, fix up the necessities to keep it running and you have an awesome rat rod wrecker too if you just put the arm in the back if you want to go that route. Either way, this thing will be intimidating.

Re: New Truck! I need opinions.

Looks like you have $500 worth of parts in it. One thing I don't understand - how do Texas trucks get rust? There is no salt on the roads, so where does the rust come from? Is it salty sea air from the coast?
