5 lug conversions ??
Hi guys
I'm going to be startng on a 67 build in the next few months. Right now im trying to find some of the bigger issues. I have 2 frames and they are both drum brakes. It is my understanding that you can use newer spindels and discs if you drill the spindels for bigger ball joint is this correct? I can get brakes and spindels off of a 84 2wd will these work with this method? Also on the rear I have to fill in and redrill the axels to 5x5 is this correct. Any info is appericated. Also my budget will be very limited on this project so I can't just buy conversion kits. |

Welcome to the forum 72 Z-28. You can get most of everything you need off of the 84 donor truck. If your dealing with bare frames it might be easier to swap the entire front crossmember to your 67 frame.
For the rear you can have your axles redrilled to 5x5 or purchase new axles with the correct pattern. Most of your questions are answered in this FAQ post. Take a look at this. "Drum to Disc" conversions 60-70

Re: 5 lug conversions ??
Hey thanks. I'm new to this forum and haven't really got a chance to read all the stickies and such. I don't have the 84 frame I just got lucky and a guy I know is scrapping it and he said I could have the spindels and brakes cheap. I have a 67 3/4 ton 2wd truck and a 71 1/2 ton frame with drums. I want to put the 67 body on the 71 frame. So the 84 crossmenber isn't really a option. Just off the top of your head have you heard of guys having problems with the LSX series engine fitment in the 67-72 trucks? My plan is to use a 6.0 vortech and 4L80. Thats were I'll be putting most of the budget haha. Thanks,
