picked up an '89 Jimmy

I've been looking for an 87-91 Blazer/Jimmy to replace my DD. Found a decent one at a good price, out in Arkansas. Met the guy to look at it last night and bit the bullet. Just needs a little cosmetic work and it'll be good. I'm going to attempt to keep this one relatively stock. Shouldn't be too hard, my wife won't let me start another project.

The pinstriping was a dealership option, still have the $159 invoice in the glove box for it. Gonna have to paint it in the next couple years, while pinstriping's not my thing it will be kinda sad to see it go. Pretty much everything is original. First two "musts" are new tires (the front mudders are aweful) and fix the exhaust (it dumps before the rear axle, and gets into the cabin big time).

Looks pretty slick! How's the interior? Which radio does it have in it?

I finally got a new set of buckets for my 79 K5 yesterday. They are from my Coweta guy and a recently acquired 89 Suburban he is parting out. It had a perfect dash pad on it (gray) but he wouldn't part with it.

No, his name is Terry. He makes a living parting out 89 - 91 suburbans for the most part. I've begged him to get on here and become a vendor or something, but I guess he doesn't want to get in to the shipping aspect of it all.

Re: picked up an '89 Jimmy

It's got the factory cassette deck. I'll have to snap a picture for you to see if it's the kind you've been looking for.

Interior is nice, some stains to scrub out. Dash pad is cracked but that's to be expected.

Looks like there's a leak in the cowl somewhere, coming through the blower motor. I'll have to get that buttoned up ASAP. Hopefully it's just the rubber.

Re: picked up an '89 Jimmy

Oh I'm good on radios, I probably have 6 of the factory decks here now. I just wondered if it had the normal sized in it, or the bigger one like the 89 and up Suburbans have.

You're telling me. I've got 0 (well, a couple hours now) experience with 4x4 vehicles. Those mudders on the front were loud and all over the place. First time I've made the entire trip with both hands on the wheel since driver's ed.

That's a drawback to running beefy tires, they'll sure sing to you going down the road.

I'll swap you straight across for the old and weathered and somewhat smooth tires on my k5. Oh hell, I'll toss in $50 to boot!

Been awhile since I was in my 87, but this 89 radio seemed to be a bit taller. Didn't know there were bigger ones so I didn't think about it much.

Re: picked up an '89 Jimmy

I'll be getting replacement tires in the very near future. If you really want them you can have them once they're off. Fronts & backs don't match though.
