WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
I recently purchased a 1972 Blazer, according to the PO it doesn't have the original gas tank in it and it's been sitting for a while so I want to replace it before I try to get it running. I am looking for an original in very good condition or possibly a NOS one (like I'm actually gonna find one, yea right!). I have looked at getting a reproduction steel one, and will go that route if I have to. Does anyone have any information on those as far as fit, function, best place to order from, etc? Also, I haven't looked at it real close yet, but I'll probably be needing the mounting hardware and straps also. Thanks in advance for any help, Greg

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
I put a gas tank kit in my last 72 k5 from lmc , i got the whole thing, tank ,straps and sending unit. It s the same tank as the relocation kit for trucks and i think it was around $225. Easy swap everything fit like it should but none of these tanks come with the neck for a blazer but i cut mine off the old one with a saw and a waterhose in it running cause the guy at the welding shop wouldnt and i really dont blame him but i hack sawed it off in about ten seconds and took it back to him and had it welded on the new tank. I might be wrong but when i get a new tank for my project im gonna find someone with a bender and get a piece of 1 1/4 emt and just make a new one . I tried that at the muffler shop before i cut my old one but the guy said muffler pipe would rust out fast and he couldnt bend anything that small anyways. but yes the tanks are pretty easy to change . i wouldnt waist my money on the anti rattle thing with it again though it was just roofing paper that went under the straps. hope this helps you some

Yes! definately, thanks! I am always a little weary of ordering from LMC. You never know what you are going to get. They seam to stock stuff from a large variety of vendors, some good, some bad. Thanks again, Greg

Thanks for the info, I did not know that there was only one company reproducing these. Greg

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
I bought one from LMC. If you don't do something about the neck (as described above) it is pretty much worthless. The neck comes out straight towards some metal brackets so that you can't put the filler hose on. Ticked me off because I didn't realize that when I bought it. I ended up cleaning out and using a used tank.

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
If you can find a decent original tank, Eastwood makes a kit that puts a new lining inside the tank that you can use before you even put it in your truck.

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
Fesser, I looked at lmc's web site before posting this ad, they now have a side note on their description. It didn't really make that much since to me when I looked at it before. Now I understand. Thanks.
72blazerCST, I think I'm going to do as you suggested and try to find a good original tank. Not an easy task down here, blazers are few and far between, but as I have read on this site and based on the comments here I think its what I'm going to have to do. I go pick it up on Friday, once I have it home I'll be able to figure out what the PO did and go from there. |

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
I was gonna add too that i cut the new neck down to about a inch off the old tank cause it was touching a body mount or was almost going to and the gates fuel hose 24020 vulco 1 1/4 id i used from oreillys was a stright piece and bent shut when i tried to just use it instead of adding my old neck ,but really looking back they had a whole wall of that stuff in different shapes i think for tractors, i think i could have cut a little off the new tanks neck and found a hose that had a bend in it and made it work instead of adding a new neck cause i had to use the new hose anyways to go from the neck to the filler . just my thoughts ! I got the old tank in the back yard by the shed without the neck on it had a pin hole the new one was identical to the original one as far as i could tell other than the blazer neck of course ( if you dont find a nos one )

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
I am looking at a 72 Blazer that I think the owner is going to part out. It has a beautiful gas tank in it. I'm not looking for one so maybe I can get you a good deal on it. I dont think shipping would be to awful bad. I should find out in the next couple days if he is going to part it or not.

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
72blazerCST, that sounds like a good posibility, if shipping doesn't become a major pita. Please, keep me posted.
1972k5blazer, I had a similar idea based on the gas tank in a 68' camaro. It has a piece of rubber hose that connects the filler neck to the tank from the factory. I really need to get this home and see what is or is not there. I think the NOS one is a pipe dream. I would really like to find one in original shape, even if I have to take it somewhere and have it vatted and the inside coated. Still in the end it's going to come down to availability. I appreciate the offer and I will definately let you know. Thanks, Greg |

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
There's a place in Rockville Maryland that flushes and re-lines gas tanks. Don't know exactly what that means but there is probably a similiar place in TX. I had a friend use the place in Md and he was happy with the job (whatever that was). Gotta beat tryin to put a tank from China in your car.

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
Any update on the search for a Blazer tank? I'm thinking about using one for my truck project. I would like to find out which aftermarket one works out best? I have seen some made out of plastic. Anyone used one them?

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
Hey everyone, I got the blazer home a few weeks ago. I quickly realized when I looked under the back end, that the "home made" bolted in gas tank the PO was referring to was in fact the skid plate. I do not think that it has ever been messed with, but to this date I have not done anything with it........yet. He did state that his reason for parking it 12 years ago was because he was getting alot of trash in the fuel. So, I still plan on starting with the tank before I do anything else, I have just had too little time lately. Also, I did do some checking, and talked to Kenny's trucks about their tanks, according to them what they sell is a direct replacement. They also informed me that most likely what LMC sells is a truck conversion tank, and probably the reason the filler neck has issues working in a blazer. That's all I have, and should catch everyone up to date. Thanks, Greg

Re: WTB Blazer Gas Tank NOS??
I know i have 2 blazer only fuel inlet tubes here.off old tanks from 15 years ago...I will have to unpack some stuff..I save everything..
do you have your orignal tank tube? I had a new poly tank..in my 70 4x4 ..blazer,never had gas in it...had a nos sending unit in it...well that thing got moisture in it and rotted the sending unit right off..only sat for 2 years..and was covered up..and sealed up too. I sold the poly tank because it would not fit the filler hose on it.I.went with a good used tank |
