Re: Question I want answered

i would love to know this as well, but don't think GM is telling. Maybe to protect the designer(s) against lawsuits----you know, the bogus side tank hazard.

NOTE: IF you are out there, please identify yourself. Even anonymously would be great.

Re: Question I want answered

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was probably not a single person/identity, but a team of engineers.

As well, their identities will likely remain silent because of reasons much like the ones mentioned, for protection.

Why would you want their names anyway?

Re: Question I want answered

I'm here, I"m here.....(lol)

By "designer" - do you mean from the Design Studio (ie, the "stylist")?

or do you mean the person in charge of Engineering?

The Chief Engineer of the program was Earl Stepp, a hard drinking old school bull-of-the-woods manager. As you can see, he got the job done. He passed away quite a few years ago.

As far as styling, I'd have to do some checking on that. I've seen photos of the trucks in the Studio and in clay but I don't remember if there was a name associated with that.

And - you all are correct - it is definitely a team of individuals working together.

Speaking of which, we also had a Peter Dooley, who was an assistant staff engineer in one of the design groups.

Re: Question I want answered

August 2010 I was driving my 85 squarebody through Las Vegas moving to Reno, and I made it thanks to that man. Talk about leaving a legacy, you cant throw a rock without hitting one of these trucks. As abundant and common as they are they all seem unique and everyone seems to have a story about one or has owned one.

Re: Question I want answered

alot of the gmc and chevy trucks i seen there were red and of the 20 series i saw a few light brown/tan ones too. but other colors ie blue, green, black ( to hot and to much sun for that) i didnt see but very few of. this is both KUWAIT and iraq. the red ones were a fleet color though. all looked like old work trucks.
