Does different belt size matter?
I have an ls2 out of a trailblazer and the power steering pump and reservoir wont fit in between the frame rails; however, the truck pump and reservoir fit fine. The pulley on the truck pump is bigger though. I was wondering if I ran the truck belt size which I assume to be a little bigger since the pulley is either a half inch or inch bigger, I can't remember. Will this affect performance or how the truck runs? I could try to take the pulley off the ls2 pump and put it on the truck pump. Any suggestions and knowledge would be great. Thanks

Re: Does different belt size matter?
width matters, if the pulleys are different # of ribs, then you might have an issue. Otherwise the belt length doesn't matter; as long as the tensioner can keep it tight.

Re: Does different belt size matter?
okay thanks, they are the same width, I didn't think that the length would matter but just wanted to check

Re: Does different belt size matter?
as long as the routing is correct. If I'm not mistaken the TBSS LS2 uses the truck accessory bracket...so if using a truck ps pump then you'd just get a 5.3/6.0 truck belt?

Re: Does different belt size matter?
That is what I was thinking. I thought that the accessory bracket was the same for all these newer engines even the 5.3 liters, but today when I got the truck ps pump I don't understand how it mounts on the bracket and it's tough to see in pictures of everyone's because the pulley is always on. The bolts also seem to be smaller for the tbss pump than the truck pump. So I'm a little confused on what to do now.

I think I found the whole issue. I thought that the bracket was the same, but it appears it is slightly different; however, the top is exactly the same. Here is a picture of mine and then here is a picture or something I found on the internet.

Re: Does different belt size matter?
yea, it must just be in the difference in the p/s pumps. I'll put a pic up later of what my pump looks like compared to your guys pumps. I was just always under the impression that those brackets were the same no matter what the engine was, and well 68GMCCustom, you know what the p/s pump looks like in a tbss, it's half plastic. I think I'll just end up getting the truck bracket and changing to a truck's p/s pump for simplicity and a clean look.

Re: Does different belt size matter?
truck stuff should be the same. I bought a pump for an older truck ('01?) to get it w/o the extra return for hydraboost. rockauto generally has decent pics of the part.
