Re: lets see those chop tops!!
Not a big fan of chop top square bodies, there is a late 70's square body here in town with a chop top and it just doesn't look right

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
In my opinion all those pictured above are chopped too much. Subtlety is the key to a nice chop

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
This is the only one I've seen on these trucks that looks good . Definitely, subtlety is the key! Just my opinion, and the back window does need to be dropped down, not "squashed".

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
personally I'm not a fan of chopped roofs.....DV8's is the only one I've ever seen that looks good!...If you dont do it right it just looks stupid!

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
IMO, on a 73-87, the best way to lower the lid is to keep the windshield and rear window un-cut, and lose the vents. Lean the front back, lower the rear down...bringing the bottom of it down to match the bottom of the side windows.
One day I will do this.

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
That method requires very expensive custom side glass to be made. I agree on moving the back window down though. That's what I did.

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
I don't like them on squares at all. On a 1930's whatever, they are fine, but I don't like them on squares.

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
x2 on DV8s chop. The best Ive ever seen on a square, the problem with a chop is the proportions are all messed up. The side of the truck is just way to tall to really pull it off well..

Re: lets see those chop tops!!
hey guys new memeber here...and yes i realize this thread is quite old. i found it during a google search of......you guessed it...chopped chevy trucks. just thought i'd put in my 2cents. i luv the look on any body style chevy truck. but i'm old school. 95% of the time it has to be a sectioned chop...not a lean chop. very rarely does a lean chop work imo. and not a fan of "slight"(whats the point in doin the work if its barely noticable? imo) or "extreme"(whats the point if it makes the truck waaayyy too impractical? imo) chops either. in most cases "3-"4 is "just right" most anything. In fact one item at the bottom of my list of additional mods to my '84 swb i just got is a chop. its at the bottom cuz its def gonna be the most expencive mod. got few pics of dif body styles/styles of chops. most of em i prob pulled from this site so 1 or 2 mite belong to other members or have been posted before.
the 1st pic is prob one of the few trucks chopped more than "4 that looks decent. really likin the yellow too, makes it pop the 2nd pic is prob the ONLY leaned A pillar chop i've seen that i realy like. that ones got me thinkin' lol the 3rd pic of the gmc is prob "4 or "5 and looks sweet but just a chop with the rest of the body stock isnt one of my fav looks. i like custom work bumper to bumper or none at all. but thats just me. the '48-'51 is just plain bad ass and the chop brings the whole look together. my only issue with this truck is that the front wheels seem to be out of alignment quite a bit. the wheels are turned a bit to the right? air bags? the last pic- "golddigger"-super nice custom stepside from the late 80's early 90's has a realy nice chop(looks like the A pillar leans slightly) and is one of my personal all time favorite custom trucks. i remember seein it featured in a few mags back in the day. anyhow thanks for takin a min to read my post. keep them sweet ass chevy truck pics rollin' in!
