1966 chevy truck overload springs
Has anyone seen overloads on a 1966 c10? Im picking them up from the guy just bc i haven't seen them before and they just look cool. They mount to the frame and push against the trailing arms.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
they are a factory option as far as ive been told and they were on my c10 when i bought it and i think they help out with the squat but def dont hold a huge load we loaded my pickup with 64 bags of 50lb bags of seed and ya it bottomed out we ended up with 50ish bags on it and it still was squating im sure with just the factory springs that wouldnt have been possible

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
These were on the 66 frame I cut up for my crew cab. They mount all the way down under the trailing arms also. I still have the complete assembly including hardware.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
I took them off of my truck recently. The ride was greatly improved!! The darn things engage when going over speed bumps, bumps in the road, uneven pavement and were brutal.

When you're running light and you hit a bump, you have the nice coil-spring spring rate for the first half of the way down. Then you hit the overloads, and your spring rate instantly doubles or triples. They're great if you're working on the farm, otherwise - not so much.

I guess mine are aftermarket bc they are u bolted to the frame not on a riveted mount.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
these are original to these trucks.most people do take them off and throw them away for a better ride.on the 1966 trucks on the spid they are called "auxilliary rear spring equ."they were an option.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
I have those in my 62 shorty and I think I rather have them on then off. I think they also help with cornering kinda like a sway bar would do to some extend that is. Correct me if I am wrong in my theory. Also mine are the u-bolt type must be after market.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
I might take them apart and remove one spring to lighten them just a touch and give it a little more travel before they come in to play.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
Saw these on a 3/4 ton frame yesterday.
Here's an older thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=overload

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
Here is another informative thread on several types of overload springs. I added a set of original equipment overloads to my c10 and they significantly added to its carrying capacity. As I understand it, each spring adds 500 lbs of load capacity I have never noticed them altering the ride when I was driving without a load, but my truck has not been lowered.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
Overloads were mando equipment on a Custom Camper, optional on others. If not hauling or towing, probably just as well to remove all or some leafs if not happy with the ride. Lostmy65, what are you speaking to in the frame pic? I see no overloads, only a bump stop - or am I missing the point of the pic? Thanks.

Re: 1966 chevy truck overload springs
Yeah, just the bumpstop plate on the trailing arm base.
Saw it on a frame out in the wild. Thought I'd snap a pic and post it.
