Cap sizes

Tried to put a truck cap I had on Smokey.

The cap measures 99" by 68" and fit a 93 chevy long bed.

The cap is a couple of inches narrow on each side.

Looks like I need one 99" by 72".

Is the 85 crew cab long bed wider than the 93 regular cab long bed?

Re: Cap sizes

Unless I was mis-informed years ago, the newer style did get narrower in the rear. (88-up for the 1/2 ton)

Company had a bunch of ladder racks for sale when they replaced a bunch of fleet pick-ups. Newer trucks were narrower in the rear. (aerodynamics?)

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Cap sizes

Trucks ...Chevy/Ford /Dodge had standard size and dimension boxes until we started on the fuel economy thing.
87 was the last year(91 for crewcab) that took a traditional standard cap.

After that they became specific to a model/series

Now even GMC and Chevy are different.
