Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

I spent the weekend trying to convince my father that when we fix my AC we need to use R-12 but no dice. Also found out that starters can over heat who'd a thunk!?! Got the Trailblazer ready for a trip to MN.

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

Got the front fenders and grill bolted up for the last time (hopefully) on my '50. Also finished the front end wiring, have headlights, parking lights, signals, and cooling fan. Might get to drive it in about 3 weeks.

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

I picked up another 454 this weekend to replace the one that went BOOM 15 minutes after getting fired off. I started the tear down today to inspect everything and to port the heads for a little better flow. Hopefully everything looks good and I can order a Lunati solid lift VooDoo in the next week or so.

Other than that, I hung out at the neighbors pool all day yesterday.

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

I worked on some dually stuff....

I got the rotors turned, cleaned up, & painted last week. I picked up the bearings & seals for them plus cleaned & painted the front splash shields. I still need to clean & detail the calipers to re-assemble everything.

I did some general & detail cleaning on the trans. It was pretty dirty & like a dumb-a, I didn't power wash it when I had Jonboy's borrowed power-wash set-up (returned it last weekend). I relied on the old scrub, rinse, & repeat method. It took 4 complete passes scrubbing w/a scotchbrite pad & degreaser before I could wipe a paper towel over it & not see grease/dirt residue.

Today, I rounded up the steel needed to move forward on my trans x-member. I'm modifying an ECE unit I had taking up space in the garage. I've stretched the height where it slides into the frame rails & raised the pad for the trans mount. This should allow routing the exhaust within the frame rails vs. under like the OE routing. I'll leave it tacked together for now until I can verify header to exhaust pipe alignment (don't want to spend a crap-load of time on it & not be able to use it). I put some reference marks on some SS tubing for parts of the exhaust (like my 64, the dually is getting mandrel bent, seamless, SS exhaust pipe except for the mufflers). I'll get the marked pieces cut to size & they'll be ready for mock-up once the engine & headers are in place.

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

Dropped my 250 off at the machine shop. Fix the torn up rear main surface, clean up the deck, .030 over 307 pistons.

Fixed the AC belt on the 87 diesel, i had replaced the crank pulley with a solid steel one but the rear groove was smaller, belts wer fighting and slipping, so I rerouted belts so the AC is not driven by the crank pulley. Much happier.

Got a new set of tires mounted for my trailer. Ought to be good for another 20 years.

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

I installed my front and rear glass, I have the seals with the chrome insert. I had a heck of a time getting in those metal corner pieces that cover the joints. I think they were made of aluminum foil. Anyway I finally got them in and the one in front bloody fingers and all.

Filled in the stake holes in my newly rebuilt box for my 1980. Got most of the firewall stripped of the black friggin rockguard crap that the previous owner put on. Started a little bodywork.

Went to a truck show and met several board members. I also bought everything to convert my crew over to power including the glass from a burb.

Well I've joined the ranks of the Unemployed, and don't have the correct funds to do much with the truck. It's a little depressing to tell the truth. But enough sadness, I did get more sanding done, everyone knows that's an endless job.

Well this weekend was non stop work trying to get one of my cars ready for a picnic which was yesterday. I'm talking working on it 'till 1 AM or later at night and waking up at 5:30 or so the next day. My girlfriend even got in the mix and helped me sand the car in preparation for paint. Workin the the wifes grocery getter

Just kidding. This truck has alot of body filler and extra thick steel placed where ever it was rusted through. If the price of metal holds I may be able to retire soon.

PB blaster is my friend. I got the bolts out of the bed without rounding the square holes in the bed

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

I bought some parts from a friend who was cleaning up his stash. He had been planning to change his round headlight Blazer to a square headlight front end, but changed his mind.

I got a hood, fenders, inner fenders, front bumper with brackets, front doors with glass, power locks, and power windows, wiper motor, wiper linkage, the cowl parts that go below the wiper arms, wiper arms, a sliding glass rear window, a set of A/C dash controls and four 8" rally wheels for $150. It is all off of a post '87 Suburban, and rust free.

I don't really need the parts, but I thought it was too good of a deal to pass up...

Re: what did you get done 8/7/11 edition

Finally tracked down all the parts needed to get a working parking brake on my brother's 1970 C10. The PO had COMPLETELY removed all of the parking brake equipment. I'm talking cables, lever, strut bar, springs, EVERYTHING.

It was a pain tracking down all the guides/springs/lever, etc, but we should be good to go to get it all on the truck tonight. Then off to get it inspected.

As for my truck? I got the core support stripped down of all components. It's now ready for blasting and powdercoating. Plans for next weekend are getting the hood and fenders/inner wheel wells off. Then I need to build my "cart" for the bed, so I can get the bed off the truck but still be able to move it around the garage. Then into the garage with the frame/cab. Probably won't be a truck again for a few years, more like a pile of parts.

I sold my 86 lwb c10 as a roller that was rust free (with the help of alot bondo ) then i took the cash and bought a friends 82 shorty c10 that was rust free besides surface rust on passenger rocker as a roller. Took the cab off, and primed the bedsides. Put my new wheels i got for a steal off craigslist on there and called it a night
