Tubular trans cross members?

Has any one here ever made their own transmission cross member? I have access to everything to build one at work but nothing to go off of for a template. A few question I have are, what length to make it (side to side) and whether or not there is any kind of bend in it or just a straight shot side to side between the frame rails.

You can make it anyway you want it. Bent, straight, or both.... It will just depend on what is easiest for you to work with (functional & clears everything). For most guys, it's easiest to do the garage type build w/a straight piece of round or rectangular steel.

For length it depends on if you plan to mount it on the horizontal or vertical plane of the frame rail.

I try & build them like the factory, just stronger/HD. Mine fasten @ both the top & bottom lip of the frame rail & then I add a triangulating gusset so it's more structural vs. just bolting it to one or the other. Google an ECE x-member or TCI (streetrods, not the trans co) for ideas.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Tubular trans cross members?

Thanks SCOTI, I've been looking into it a little. I think I'm gonna go with a straight rail and mount it like factory.

Any one happen to have the dimensions for the mount pad. I've been googling it and haven't seen it yet. But I'm gonna keep looking.
