Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

my guess would be it would make the rim hit the lower a arm since it will raise the center of the wheel up and the center of the suspension down

I run 2.5 spindals with stock A-arms. No problems. I ven have 2" lowering springs.
The warning is based on how much back spacing you have on a wheel. If you have it at least 4", like on a 15X8 wheel, your are fine.

Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

What about less than 4? I have eagle alloys 15x8 (the ones that look like American racing outlaws) but I don't know the backspacing and I can't seem to find the wheels anywhere

Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

my 15x8 rallys would not clear the botton ball joint , 15x7 fit fine

Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

I just installed 2.5 McGaugtys spindles and I have 15x6.5 rallys with 4.25 bs and on tight turns my rim rubbs on the lower control arms also the tie rod arm is so close to the rim it nocked the balance weights off. I would say you would be fine with 4in of bs or less.

To elaborate on the above, I run the same setup, some will have the balance weights placed on the outside of the stock 15x6.5 rim which will eliminate the weights hitting the tie rod arm, I used the flat sticky weights which affix to the inside of the rim which works well. Their is a lip (water removal or gutter) on the bottom control arm that some will grind slightly to allow for better clearance and this works well too.

Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

I have 2.5" Western Chassis spindles on mine and I have no rubbing issues on my calipers with 15x8 rallies. I havent checked the lower control arm when turning though.

Check for clearance issues at ride height.

Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

The is a general disclaimer when running smaller wheels... not all wheels are created equal. Some have larger drop centers on the hoop with smaller centers. No way to know if it is gonna go until you slap em on and see what you run into or find someone else that has done the same exact combo.

How is what I posted incorrect? The illustsration is exactly what I said!

Wheel mounting surface to the outermost edge of the the backside of the wheel.
After all we are talking about the back half of the wheel.

You said:
"Measure from the mounting surface to the outermost lip".

I took that as the "outside of the wheel".
Not the inside edge. (backside)
So many, have this backwards,... on this board.
I apologize if I misunderstood you.

Re: 2.5in drop spindles clearance problems?

My mc gaughys 2.5" drop spindles made the balancing weight rub. Just had to get the tire re-balanced with some stick wieghts and I was good to go.
