Mounting a front bumper on a 54 Chevy

Could someone tell me the trick to putting on the front bumper and splash pan
on a 54 Chevy truck. Nothing lines up. Do I have to bend the brackets somehow? Do I put the bumper on the brackets first? A little help would be appreciated.

Re: Mounting a front bumper on a 54 Chevy

make sure you have the right brackets.put the bumper brackets on first use the back three bolt holes on the bracket that attach to the frame.but leave the bolts loose.then set the gravel guard behind the back of the bracket that mounts to the bumper. them mount the bumper to the outside. you have run the bumper bolts throught the bumper, then the brackets and the gravel guard at the same time.the center bumper bolt hole in the bumper is used to just run a bolt through the the gravel guard. unless you have the structure brace that goes behind the bumper. but most people dont have it and you dont really need it. here are some pics i found to help you out.i hope this helps. i tried my best to explain it. its easier to do then explain.

What he said......... you just have to work at it a little to get them to fit.. don't be afraid to open a hole up a little or tweak it some..

Re: Mounting a front bumper on a 54 Chevy

Thank you Fredscarryall and Parkwood. I will try again this weekend. I should have suspected they would not just bolt on as nothing else aftermarket has fit the first time either. Thanks again for the info. I appreciate it.
