ive had enough.
ive been looking everywhere to find fiberglass parts.
where can i get them for 73-87. even if you have a different year, where did you get the stuff from. im looking for a pin on 6 inch cowl hood for a 73-80. i saw glasstek and harwood make ones that are 4 inch but im also looking for front bumper, maybe roll pan and a few other parts. the doors, fenders and bedsides all have the inner panels removed, so there about as light as there gonna get. please help me, ive heard usbody and unlimited products (up22) are junk. i know that glasstek and harwood are reputable companies but all they make are hoods. thanks |

Re: ive had enough.
You have to remember that all of those companies make both a Race version and a Street version of their products. The bad reviews might be from people buying the race parts for their street rides. Which are lighter weight and not meant for street abuse.

Re: ive had enough.
My 66 hood and front fenders are street weight USbody source. I won't say it's a 'perfect' hood, but nothing in glass is going to be 'perfect'. Their street weight stuff is pretty stout and not a tremendous weight savings over stock steel, the race weight is super light glass, and now there even making a composit line for those seeking 'ultra' light. I've not used or know anyone that has used the composit.

Re: ive had enough.
I've got US Body Source parts on my Chevelle (glass bumper, also have a glass bolt on hood and a glass lift off hood).
They're "fine" - meaning some fitting is required and they don't look like steel. But they get the job done and are one of the few companys that make stuff for my car. K

Re: ive had enough.
I think that's because people order the race weight, USBS makes it, package it, ship it.. and when it arrives the purchaser says WTF!!! this is a flimsy P.O.S. I don't want this!!!
Race weight is very thin, very flimsy and in all honesty, is made to me admired from 50' and 'appear' to be something akin to the original. You will need to find a way to support it from collapsing from the pressure of high speed air pushing DOWN on it,, AND attach it well enough the suction of high speed air rushing over it doesn't pull through the hood pins / dutz fastners or whatever you use. Most of the 'race weight' stuff I've seen from Glasstec, USbody, or whomever is (as indicated) really thin, flimsy, LIGHT and full of spiderweb cracks in 5-10 years. I think there if the mind that it's a race car, not a show car. If you want to make the race weight stuff show quality,,,,, you need to be experiences in working with glass,, and slate PLENTY of time to work it over and get it there.

well all im really thinking of getting is a hood. im thinking of just going with the 4 inch harwood and if its a little skimpy, im sure i can fab something up to support it. 85% of the truck is custom anyway. im thinking of doing dzus (or however then hell you spell it) fasteners every 8 inches or so down the sides and along the front. cuz thats how we have it on the race car... like this.... (yes i know the hood isnt on, but you an see the spots) |

Re: ive had enough.
I had a us body lite(race) hood on my 88t/a a moroso carb pan held up the middle just fine.. was it straight as an arrow, nope, did it fit, yup..
it was nothing more than an outer skin and some foam braces.. still on car 10years later.. I'll never do anothe race hood, not because of the hood I had.. but after see'n cars burn because try'n to get all the dnuz to open then the hood off. takes to long as the car is on fire.. onboard fire serpress, I'd do another.. |
