Famoso Hot Rod Reunion Pics

Spent a few hrs at Famoso today - it was packed. Good show, decent swap meet (not a real big one though). Picked up a complete 64-66 gauge dash cluster for $30, needs a rebuild though, so gonna piece it together. Seemed to me there really wasn't much racing going on (unfortunately). Now that there are so many old-school funny cars and front-engine slingshots to participate in the racing, there doesn't seem to be much room left for just plain old gassers and nostalgia racers. But to each his own, still had a nice time.

LOTs of chevy trucks, including 60-66's. Also, some very nice push trucks for the dragsters. How many of you built the Snake and Mongoose funny cars as kids?? Ha, they were pretty cool. This will take several posts. I'll also post the push trucks in the "push truck" thread as well as here to be complete.
I especially liked the "Jocko's Porting Service" GMC pusher, for obvious reasons - posting it first!!
Enjoy.

Re: Famoso Hot Rod Reunion Pics

I was there yesterday as well and had a great time. We go every year, and each time it gets bigger and bigger. I was surprised at how many 60-66 trucks were there as push trucks. The first two pictures you posted are really making me reconsider my original shop logo idea on my '64. A mid-60s Top Fuel race team truck would be awesome!

Jocko, we seem to always go to the same shows. One of these days, we're going to have to finally meet up. And by the way, I saw that cluster that you bought. You got a good deal. I was in the swap meet at my buddy's booth trying to sell a few of my drag race collage prints. I was in the booth that had the really nice yellow '46 chevy panel (car, not truck). That belongs to my buddy, Tom Clark.

is that the Tom Clark of the Knotts Sign Shop and all around sign & pinstripe guy? His panel is b!tchen, especially the lettering on it....tell him Tim from Arts & Letters says hello. I'll be seeing him at a pinstriping event in Dec.

Yep, that's Tom! He is one talented guy, and his panel is too cool. I also think that the lettering on it is phenominal. His style is amazing, and his choice of color is always right. We were also there with Bob Thompson, who is an incredibly talented sign guy as well. Remember the old Miller's Outpost commercials? Well, Bob was Homer! I was there with Brad King (hotrod 49 here on the site) who can match them both in talent. I was hanging with 3 bad hombres.

So you'll be at Rod Foreman's striper's party in December? I'll be there with Brad, so I will make sure I find you and introduce myself.

Talk about talent......the guys at Ron's party are some of the best in the world. Guys like Willis, Phil Whetstone, and others. It's always a good time, and the food is AWESOME!

You're quite welcome! It was one of my favorites - was that a mid-90's silverado seat in it? Love black with red interior combo.

Yes, the seat is my '95 Silverado Pick-A-Part special. Black on red was a very popular color combo back in the day. Now it seems that black cars and trucks stay with a more neutral interior color.

Re: Famoso Hot Rod Reunion Pics

TopFuel1966-
So that was your truck at Famoso? I was checking it out in the pits. I like it!

So, what car did you guys push at the Cacklefest?

I go every year, and I think it's getting a little too crowded, but it's still a great time. After this year, I have completely changed the lettering idea I was originally going to do on my '64. I'm not going to divulge too many details, but instead of it being a shop truck theme, it's going to be a mid '60s drag race team theme.

Thanks. We have the Woody Gilmore Trick Car, one of two T/F cars built by Race Car Engineering with independent front suspension. It's a re-creation of this car that was destroyed in a crash in 1971 that we campaigned in late '66 - '67. The truck is also a re-creation of the black '64 BBW SWB C-10 that I bought new which we used as our tower/pusher back then. This one is a '66 and is much nicer than the original with it's modern running gear, p/s, p/b, a/c and kick-butt sound system. It's a frame-off rebuild of a POS that I found in Oklahoma almost 10 years ago. Should've passed on this one and kept looking.
