changing the yoke on the driveshaft
the drive shaft i have for my 1966 stepside seems to be the right length.The yoke seems to be wrong i bought this unit without a engine and tranny.Anyone have a idea the cost to get a shop to change the yoke.there is a th400 tranny in the truck.

I would think $60 to 70.00 with a new U joint...at least here in the States.

Cost is going to depend on what you end up needing. If the transmission yoke you have is not for a TH400, the first thing you’ll need is a different transmission yoke. Depending on which part number is selected that could cost over $100, or perhaps less if a local driveshaft shop has a used item available. If the TH400 yoke selected turns out to be longer than what you currently have, you may also need to have the driveshaft shortened.
The front yoke on the driveshaft will probably be the wrong size for the TH400 u-joint. If the shaft does not require shortening, you can fix the problem with a combination u-joint. If it does need to be shortened, you might as well buy the yoke that fits the u-joint, which again will increase the cost. |
