'76 c10 gauge cluster swap

Hi all,
Trying to replace my '76 chevy c10 idiot light cluster with what I think is a (73-75) factory tach cluster with gauges (because it has a mechanical oil pressure gauge and ammeter, not volts). The FAQs cover the pre-73s, but not these. This is asking a lot, so I will not be surprised if I get no responses.

The principal is straightforward - rearrange the cluster plug pins to support the new cluster but it's not a clean swap. Any light shed on the following would be very much appreciated:

1. The ammeter gauge in the "new" plug calls for 2 pins (wires) - a black wire (ground?) and a black and white wire - that the old harness does not have.

2. What do I do with the orange generator/ignition wire and the brown generator wire, both of which are not included in the new gauge cluster? Do they now go to the ammeter or removed?

Thanks for anything, however trivial.

Re: '76 c10 gauge cluster swap

Ok, how 'bout this: anybody have a schematic or wiring diagram that shows the gauge cluster pin positions for a '75 c10 with gauges and tach?

(the FAQ info has info for lights and gauges w/o tach, but not gauges WITH tach)

Thank you!

73-75: Amp gauge instead of volt gauge. This cluster will only work for these three years only and are NOT serviceable since they are completely sealed. Just plugging one of these clusters in a 76 and up truck will result in instant meltdown upon turning the key.

You cannot use an amp cluster with anything but a 73-75 unless you plan on some major rewiring.

Re: '76 c10 gauge cluster swap

My truck is a 76 with mech oil and volt gauge. I bought a tach cluster and the guy said it was from 76 and it too has mech oil gauge and volt meter.

Is this a plug-n-play since both have mech oil and volts?

Will my gas gauge work in new location?

I just dont want to burn anything up LOL
