Manual steer for 2wd 1500?
I have an 89 burb. It is a 1500 2wd. I am thinking of converting to manual steering. I see boxes in lmc but they show earlier years. I would also need to address the serpentine belt. Anyone done this conversion. How much juice will i need to steer the beast? Plan on keeping lt road truck tires on it. Thanks for any input.

Re: Manual steer for 2wd 1500?
Once you get all the components swapped out it shouldn't be too bad to turn. I'also look at the steering wheel diameter of the older trucks w/o PS. Most of the non-PS vehicles I ever saw had a larger wheel to make turning it easier.
Mind if I ask why you'd want to get rid of the PS in the first place? I'm sure others here will chime in soon enough on the viability of swapping the parts out.

Re: Manual steer for 2wd 1500?
I blame it on my history. A 71 camaro with manual disks and a 54 plymouth with a flathead. I get used to very little clutter. Washer and cruise already had to go. floormats, out. I am really a very sick person. AC is staying, because it hit 107 last summer here in tx, but I have thought of getting rid of the rear AC. I even caught myself drilling lightening holes in the inner fenders.
This time, the steering box started leaking, just after I replaced the hoses, so I thought I would look into the switch.
