Bought my truck tonight!!!
I bought it!
1966 short wheel base fleet side. 383/Muncie 4 speed. Runs like a scalded dog! And yes...... I know..... I didn't build her. Don't be too hard on me, I have built lots of stuff, and currently have a 65 mustang in about 1000000000 pieces in the garage. I bought the chev so my wife has something to follow me to shows in once the stands done. I'll try and throw some pictures up the next time I'm on my desktop instead of my iPad. Unless anyone knows how to post pics from the 'pad... So far, she's realllll good. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Bought my truck tonight!!!
Yeah.... The 1-4 cylinders run under the air gap intake. I'm not a fan, but I'll change that sooner rather than later.
So far, she's a good one. Runs real nice. The 383 is brand new, still has the high ZDDP break in oil in it. Muncie is brand new too. Rear end has a eaton in it. Runs real, real strong. Loud as heck too... I'm planning on getting it registered on Wednesday and I'll get to do a real shake down run. Only thing she really needs before being street driven is a new set of tires. The rears are brand new 14 inch slicks (Hoosier), fronts are skinny drag fronts. Guy just liked the way they look I guess cause the motor behaves real well on the street. |

I already have a Hurst in her. I have buckets, so clearance isn't an issue.

Re: Bought my truck tonight!!!
You noticed that huh? Yeah I hate those too. I've got a few things to change out this week.
1) get some real tires. Love the look, but slicks straight suck on the street. 2) trans linkage needs adjusted (I think). It's super hard to find gears in her. Anyone got any pointers for adjusting shift linkage? I haven't done it in 20 years. 3) new air cleaner. The one on it blows. 4) this is a new one for me. It appears the bell housing has a missing piece. Looks almost like it has an inspection plate like an auto. Defiantly need to figure that one out before I drive her much. 5) oil change. Anyone know if any of the big box auto parts stores have ZDDP additive? She's got a flat tapet cam, and I really wanna make her reliable and last. I'm sure there's others, but that all I can think of now..... One other cool thing. When I bought her, the PO had a packet of paperwork from the builder. Found his phone number! I'm gonna give him a call and pick his brain a bit. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Bought my truck tonight!!!
There is an inspection plate for the bottom of the bellhousing, but I don't think it's critical. If your truck is using an engine block mounted starter, the plate likely won't fit anyway. An original starter for these trucks mounts to the bellhousing.

Re: Bought my truck tonight!!!
I found this on hurst's website.. What is the proper way to adjust my Hurst four speed shifter?
There is a 1/4 inch hole at the bottom of the Hurst mechanism that runs through all three levers. This is called the neutral alignment hole. To ensure proper adjustment, run the shifter from first into second and then back to neutral. Insert the neutral alignment pin (or a 1/4 inch drill bit) into the neutral alignment hole. If the 1-2 lever interferes with the smooth insertion of the alignment pin, remove the 1-2 linkage rod from the shifter and thread the adjuster button either in or out to eliminate the interference. Repeat this procedure with the 3-4 lever and reverse. To adjust the stop bolts, back the bolts out of the shifter frame until only a few threads remain. Push the stick firmly into third gear and hold. Screw in the stop bolt until contact is made. Release the stick and back the stop bolt out one turn and tighten the jamnut. Push the stick into fourth gear and repeat the procedure. |
