WHAT REAR SHOCKS ARE you RUNNING WITH AIRBAGS?

Just installed some rear 2600lbs bags on my 65 fleetside C10 that I purchased from the folks at AVS .My Frame is not C notched just stock. I will be pulling a trailer so I will need to air up bags when I am towing. The stock shock mounts are now 14" apart with truck aired down to min. proper ride height. Without C notch I have about 2" left of travel before the axle bottoms out on rubber stoppers. I need somewhere in the range of 11 1/2" - 17 " of travel on the new shocks. Any recomendations? Stock monroes are now too long. I am afraid if I purchase the shocks for lowered C10'- they wont be long enough when I air up the bags and pull the trailer.

Re: WHAT REAR SHOCKS ARE you RUNNING WITH AIRBAGS?

what truck do you have ? I kept my stock shocks so far on my 66 gmc with trailing arm suspension, 2x2 lowering blocks, and the same rear bags. You could try relocating your shocks so you will have enough range of travel. there is a lot of information on this from robnolimit and many others good luck with your search.... Kieth

Re: WHAT REAR SHOCKS ARE you RUNNING WITH AIRBAGS?

I personally like KYB GR2 shocks or the gas adjusts and have/had them on a few rides.
This should give you the specs to decide which ones you'd need.

But, if the shocks you have now are good, relocating them will be the cheapest solution.

I am running bilsteins, get them from CPP.

Keep in mind that you can easily create your own custom upper shock mounts out of 2x4, 2x6, or 2x8 aluminum or steel rectangular tubing with 1/4" wall thickness.....if you run into a shock that you want to use but wont work with the stock brackets.

Re: WHAT REAR SHOCKS ARE you RUNNING WITH AIRBAGS?

It is my understanding that you need a shock that will have a usable stroke that matches your suspension travel.

I am working based on theory not experience. here are the shocks I am considering. The biggest difference to me seems like the compression and rebound settings. I don't know where I need to be.

Experts feel free to chime in from here.

In your area you can call a good parts store and tell them your extended and compressed length on what you need. They will be able to go into there shock books and help you out for sure.If you cannot find a good source you can call us at the shop and we can get the shocks for you on what you will need.

what are you thoughts on running some billet shocks like the ride tech shocks or qa1 style for a bagged and bodydropped daily driver...

Re: WHAT REAR SHOCKS ARE you RUNNING WITH AIRBAGS?

That will be a very good choice for a upgrade over your standard gas shocks on the market. Ridetech or Afco

We carry both and have used both on bagged trucks that are driven very hard and work great.

They are alot more money but well worth it

Let us know if anybody needs some
