28 10.5 tires

The new race season starts off with new rules and I can no longer run the 31 10.5w tires. we can only run a 28 10.5 no w's this year so anyone running the tire I could use alot of help. The last time I tried to run the 28 10.5 it blew the tires off.

Re: 28 10.5 tires

I messed around with tires in the 10.5 size and found that it becomes a buy and test game. I had to run the softest compound I could fine. I ended up running firestone's , I do not recall what compound it was though. But they did hook. I ended up running less gear as well. it makes you change a bunch of things in your set up. But once I got it dialed back in the little truck was back to hanking the front wheels off the ground again.

The up side was almost no tire shake though.. for what thats worth

Re: 28 10.5 tires

The Mickey Thompson, and Hoosiers both work well. THe Hoosiers will shake your teeth out of your head, if you do not tune your chassis to them, as they have an aggressive compound. I am going to try some M&H 28x10.5 tires, and see how they perform. Some racers in North Georgia and Tennessee have had some good success with them, and Coker tires is a dealer for M&H. Coker owns Phoenix tires, but I do not think they market a 28x10.5 at this time. THe Phoenix brand is for the most part from the Firestone molds, and have an aggressive compound. If you are interested in Phoenix or M&H, call Eric Gullet at Coker tires, his number is (426)265-6368, tell him Paul Baxter sent you his way. Thanks, Paul

What kind of class you running? Heads up, index, bracket? If heads up, I would not switch to such a tall gear. I plan to run the same tire on my truck, with a 540 BBC on one fogger with a large tune up. I have the MSD 7531 to help manage power, as well as some chassis and engine tricks. The converter will also have to be correct for the combo, but you can fly on a 28x10.5 tire, and still run the proper gear to pull hard through the finish line. Paul

The 2.48 over the 3.90 is alot of mechanical advantage . Did they specify 28" or just say true 10.5 ? If just a true run a 29.5 . I would test with the 3.90 , but your on the right track . I came up with 3.40 with a 28 " tire and 400 . I had a 3.60 in the garage , so i'll probably be heading that direction .

X2 on the ignition box and pulling timing .

Re: 28 10.5 tires

What ignition box part # are you running? This sounds like a very good combo the way it is, if you have a way to manage power. You already can to an extent, since you have 2 systems, put one on a timer, if the class rules allow. The class I plan to run only allows one system, no progressors, and no timers. Has to be all on at the release of the trans-brake!! Sounds fun just talking about it. Paul

I have a msd 7al3 in the truck. The pro fogger is on a nos progressor and the small is on the button.

Put both on progressors, or, leave on the small kit, and test to figure out what the combo wants with start time/percentage, and pill size for the second system. There is still a lot you can do with the 7al3, just have to be a little more creative. Are you running 1/4 or 1/8, and what kind of trap rpm would your engine combo be happiest with? I would have the rear gear to go the quickest and fastest, then make chassis/and engine tune changes as needed. The 28x10.5 tire is very good, and I have seen high 4.80's in the 1/8 from this tire. Re: 28 10.5 tires

I will be running the 1/4, I haven't run it at the track yet with the new setup. I guess its going to be trial and error and just see what it likes. the cam shaft was giving me problems and was to big so I am trying to find all the new specs out before I order the new one. I hate to order a cam without knowing what the truck needs.
