Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

My 58 originally came with standard heat and im at the point where I have to rebuild the whole system. I have a deluxe heater control, can I make it work with the standard heater system? What do I need? Thanks

Re: Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

Just did my 65. Heater core, fan motor and fan wheel. easy to find the fan motor the trouble I had was the fan wheel. Very hard to get the right one. Even if they say it fits. Most did not. # of returns on the fan wheel.
Good luck

Any chance you can give a write up of all the stuff you changed/put in ? I have standard heater in 56 as well and consider to swap it to a deluxe as well (if I find one)...

you might be able to run cables to the heater you have to open and close the vents like the deluxe model has - the deluxe heater is a good unit - when set up correctly it; will toast ya .

Re: Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

Does anyone have pics of a deluxe heater? I think I spotted one the other day in an old truck but it was missing something up front. There was a rectangular hole in front. Vent grille?

Re: Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

I just rebuilt my deluxe heater recently. Had the heater core pressure tested and ordered a new water control valve. Painted it and put it back together, new cables too... try to put up some pics later....

Re: Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

After looking at what i got i think i can make this work. The fan part of the switch is easy, the defroster lever can be made to work with a cable to move the slider on my heater. Inside/outside air will not work because this unit only uses inside air no duct to outside. Now the temp can be made to work if there is a way to connect a heater control valve that works with a cable. Would the deluxe heater valve work? Really like the look of the control unit in the and want to use it. Let me know ifthis souns like it would work. Also are they any relays or fuses needed for the heater?

Re: Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

I can not find my pictures of the painted deluxe unit but if your interested check post 106 on my build to see the finished product. The water control valves go bad and the one in mine was really bad.
My truck did not have a heater in it originally (they were an option). At some point in its life someone installed an after market ARVIN heater. I thought about redoing the ARVIN heater but ultimately went with a deluxe one I got from a guy over on the stovebolt web site. Hope this helps.

Re: Any heater builds? Have to rebuild mine and need some help

the deluxe heater in the picts above is also what i have exactly .- there is also a small plate that goes between the fan ''port'' on the right and the cab ( 5th pict down )and that is connected by thick and wide rubber bands ( honest) most classic parts houses have them.- Wiring should be just 1 wire that runs to the switch you mentioned . between blower motor and heater core housing( pict 7 ) that is where the other thick rubber band goes - holds them together and keeps it from leaking heat out .the bands are a pain to put on -when the heater is installed - but work well when the bands are on . hope some of this helped - good luck !

bajabob ! great picts of the heater !
