I tried the Rit dye on a seat belt. The only thing that dyed was the pot and the stur stick. The seat belt came out clean and just a more vivid blue

You can go to most any autobody and paint supply dealer and get it made up. The build sheet on a vehicle should have the gm code, then just tell the dealer you want to look at that code from that year. They should have a complete catalog to compare. Much cheaper to get it in cans and spray it yourself rather than buy it in prepackaged spray cans.

Make sure you use the proper products for each purpose. I used it on the dash, works awesome, so I thought I would do the door panels, not as good. Plastic does not absorb like vinyl or carpet. Im sure SEM has the same in plastic paint if you are doing panels.

I think I used the classic coat, colour coat looks like the one I should have used on the panels

I might be wrong, but I don't think so. PPG held the original patents for all those chemicals , SEMM, R-M (Roger Moore) Sherwin Williams all use the same original formulas with a license from PPG.

The problem with that theory of course is the inbreeding, corporate buyouts and such over the years. Not to mention over 3000 vehicle manufactorers over the last 75 years or so.

PPG claims they are the original OEM the factory process used.

Re: gm dark charcoal interior dye

If I'm not mistaken lmc truck does sell interior color dye although I do not have any experience with it...as far as matching original color codes I am not sure if the product they sell is specific to the different variations of interior gm color codes. I have a friend who is looking to use this process on the interior of his 1991 gmc sonoma. I'm sure heading to the local paint shop would get you on the right track , but the spray cans from lmc just seem like an affordable and efficient route. Anyone have experience with the product lmc offers for dyeing interiors?
