Anyone ever remove trans & transfer case by themselves?

I have to pull a turbo 350 & transfer case. I've done it before but not by myself. Can it be done? I'll be using a floor jack trying to balance the trans and transfer case, the truck will be sitting on the ground, no jack stands, seems to be enough room. But in reality can I do this myself? Have any of you done it alone under the same condtions. By the way the last time I pulled a transmission & tc was some 20 years ago.
And I know the transfer case weighs some 250lbs or seems that heavy.

I do it all the time, but in two pieces. Do yourself a favor, and get a trans jack.

I agree, if you can afford it, a trans jack will be an excellent investment for yourself. If you absolutely don't have the money for a trans jack, something I have done in the past is to use two floor jacks and a small piece of plywood.

Another tip, whenever pulling a tranny with a floor jack, make sure you have a 2x4 or something similar handy. You need to place something between the jack and the pan of the transmission or you're liable to crush the pan on the transmission.

I always use my floor jack and just balance the whole affair on the jack pad. You can also use ratcheting "tie down straps" and make a sling from frame rail to frame rail crosscar, both as a safety feature and/or as and aid in getting it up off the floor and onto the jack initially.

I'm sorry guys, but I CANNOT reccomend the harbor freight trans jack. I have one of those and the scissor portion doesn't want to stay vertical - it will lean off to one side or the other and dump everything onto the floor. I've had a couple close calls and won't use it again.

The tie downs work great for the tranfer case. It's an odd shape, and really a pain to jack up, and down.

Never had an issue with my jack( used 10 times or so). Maybe they cheaped out in the last 10 years. Mine is still tight, and I use an impact to raise and lower it

This might sound crazy but I have seen my dad use a cherry picker with a chain through the trans tunnel when he didn’t have a floor jack. It actually looked fairly easy.

I welded a chunk of steel pipe that fit the floor jack saddle hole to the center of a 12"x12"x1/4" plate. I drilled 1/4" holes in the corners for tie straps. I used a second jack to stabilize the transfer case. I installed a 700R4 & NP208 in my 76 by myself with that setup.
