Edelbrock 1405 problem

My truck has the 1405 Edelbrock and it burns extremley rich. I can not even run the truck in garage unless doors are open. It diesels when you cut it off. And when you go to start you have to put the pedal to the floor to get it started. I have had one about 10 yrs ago that was rich (not this bad) and Edelbrock sent me orange springs to put in the carb. Fuel pressure is just below 7. When the truck is at operating temperature (180) It will idle in Park at 1K. Shut it off and start it right back up and it will idle at 900 until you go for a ride and the idle is back at 1k which seems high?

I would cross post this over in the "engine" section... There are some real wizards that help people out over there...

Fuel pressure too high. Needs to be 5 to 5.5. Probably flooding a bit. Might need a pressure regulator.

Re: Edelbrock 1405 problem

Where is the best place to purchase and what brand is best for a pressure regulator?

Summit. Holley is good. Don't go cheap. Find one with a gauge on it.

Re: Edelbrock 1405 problem

Is the timing set right? Id start by adjusting the floats. That should tell you if your fuel pressure is to high also. I sorta doubt thats the issue. Mine sits at 7 psi too.

Re: Edelbrock 1405 problem

Just buy an edelbrock pump and be done cleaner and easier but a few more dollars.

Ps summit brand regulator is the same as the holley

+1. Been there, done that. Worked like a charm for me too every time. And less hassle than trying to plumb in a regulator and mess with it.

Re: Edelbrock 1405 problem

If I could do it over thats what id do (i did the summit/holley regulator) then u have to buy a guage or some way to see what your psi is then re do the lines etc etc

It still looks ugly lol
