Adding power steering?

Is if difficult to add power steering to a 1980 Chevy C10?
Besides buying a steer box & ps pump, what parts will I need to replace for this type of an upgrade?
Is it better to go with stock parts or convert to rack & pinion?
Thanks

Re: Adding power steering?

I would use stock unless you plan on dragging the frame. You will need a box, pump, brackets for the pump, new belt, the lines, and possibly a new crank pully.

Thanks

Yes, but you will need a new/different pitman arm.

Re: Adding power steering?

Sounds like it would be better to wait and buy a different truck that already has PS.
Thanks

Re: Adding power steering?

Its not hard at all. Just changed my 73 to power steering. I went to
pull a part and took all the stuff off one truck. Sold my old stuff on
craigs list.

Re: Adding power steering?

I can't remember now but you can go to pullapart.com and look up
all the prices before you go. You need..pump,box,brackets,hoses,pitman arm & belt
Some times you have to change bottom pulleys on crank, I was blessed I didn't have to.
Some of these hoses have different size fitting, that's why its best to get it all from the
same truck
