Need ideas on ls swap.
I have a 70 lwb c-10 that im going to put a 5.3 4l80 into,
Would it be better to just swap my cab and body over to the newer frame or would it be better to use the 70 frame and just get all the mounts needed to swap it over? The donor truck is a 2000 long bed reg cab. Its a 3/4 ton which is why im thinking it would be better to just pull the motor and swap it. What do you guys think?????

Re: Need ideas on ls swap.
Definitely get the mounts and move the motor & trans to the 70 frame.
Lots of mount kits to chose from, I used DirtyDingo.com for my swap.

Swapping the body would be a ton more work. Are you sure its a 5.3? The only application to get the 5.3/80e were the vans, and they didn't get the newer motors untill 03. I think you may have a 6.0 there.

Re: Need ideas on ls swap.
It is a 5.3, could possibly be a 60 havent pulled anything apart to find out. the truck itself will be parted/scrapped. I was looking at the motor mount towers on the new one and it looks like i could possibly surgically remove them and might make them work in the old frame? I am defineately using the 70 frame after looking at this one. Looks like its time to study up, I have a hell of a learning curve to get after on this newer stuff.

Re: Need ideas on ls swap.
Got the truck home last night, was looking over it this morning and I think my best bet is to use the entire engine harness and just remove the sensors that I wont be using. I will be using the engine and trans, might narrow the rear end at a later date. I have the whole donor truck at my disposal. Has anyone ever used the hydra-boost setup off of one of these trucks? What about connecting it to my original steering box? I'm wanting to use everything possible from the donor truck to bring the 70 into the new ages. I think i can fab up a way to use the instrument cluster as well, I appreciate any and all criticism on what im trying to do.
Thanks Jon

Re: Need ideas on ls swap.
I have a hydroboost pump in mine, but haven't hooked into the brake circuit yet. You can cut the fitting off of the line, and flare the old style fitting on to use with your pump.

Re: Need ideas on ls swap.
Get with Captnfab, he makes a mount for the Hydro brake that fits to the earlier trucks
