C20 Lowering/RE swap ??????
I finally got a decent project truck not quite what I was looking for A C20 long bed fleetside strt six, 4speed ,8 bolt hubs- I wanted a C10 V8 3speed but ..in my part of the country you simply do not turn down anything in the sixties that is titled, complete, solid and unmodified. So now, what do I do w this beast? I want it lowered at least 2"/4" AND I want to get rid of that huge super low geared RE and four speed. In a perfect world I would even like to convert it to five stud lugs.
No pics yet but trust me it IS rock solid. |

Re: C20 Lowering/RE swap ??????
There's no reason you can't convert it to a 5 lug wheel bolt pattern. Everything changes out the same as on a C10. The exception to that is the lower control arm shaft is an oddball. It would be easiest to just switch the complete suspension crossmember with a '73-'87 unit. There is a way to go with 5 or 6 lug discs on the front by using '88-'98 components. Check out the 'Disc Brake Upgrade Reference Thread' That info is on the first page.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=367260 Ther are a lot of links to good info in the '60-66 FAQ' section up at the top of the page There are a couple of options for the rear end. That depends on your cutting and welding skills.

Re: C20 Lowering/RE swap ??????
That is the cool part on Gm's so much is interchangeable for cheap. A low, low 3/4 ton is cool too cause everyone has a C10.

Re: C20 Lowering/RE swap ??????
Find a '73-87 Chevy or GMC half-ton parts truck do the suspension swap. I did it on my '64 using a '79 Suburban. For the front, you'll have to drill two new holes and slot two existing holes in the crossmember. Buy a steering box conversion plate from Captain Fab. Buy a steering shaft coupling to mate the power steering box to your stock column from CPP. In the rear, use the rear axle from the parts truck. Just remember that it'll be 1.5" wider total than your stock axle, which isn't a big deal unless you want to go with a rim wider than 8" in the rear. Buy a rear axle perch kit from Brothers, CPP, Classic, etc. and weld them on. If you want to lower it more than 4", I would highly suggest a panhard bar relocation kit and a shock relocation kit. I got mine from Early Classic. To lower the truck, if you want 2" in the front, you can either cut a coil or buy a pair of spindles. In the rear, buy a pair of drop coils.
A conversion to 5-lug, power steering, and disc brakes take a bit of physical labor, but it's dirt-cheap and the benefits are fantastic.

Re: C20 Lowering/RE swap ??????
As my truck is a driver right now.(less head pipe. I will be going to a Clifford header set) I think I will just do a drop on it for now so I can still participate in this years cruise season. I will look for the parts to do a crossmember/RE swap next winter. Most of the catalogs I see only list C10 drop springs. Anyone know where C20 drop springs are sold? I want in the neighborhood of a 3/5 drop and will do a C notch in back.

Re: C20 Lowering/RE swap ??????
You can use the C-10 springs in your truck.
I do have some new lowering springs that came out the "project father/son 67"....just not sure what the drop is. Posted via Mobile Device
