Digital Dash Going Crazy!!!
I just got finished putting a new sbc in my buddy's 62 about a month ago. I also put in an MSD 6AL ignition box at the same time. It's been doing good until this weekend. The digital dash has started going crazy!! Everything on the dash is flickering and jumbling up the numbers.
It only does it with the engine running. I can make the ignition box fire the coil with the motor off and it will mess up the dash. My first thought was that the box is going bad but there is also a buzzing noise coming from the distributor while it is running. Could a bad coil cause the dash to mess up? |

Re: Digital Dash Going Crazy!!!
I was asking about this loose wire.
and got this as one of the responses. "One lil' thing - the condenser on coil was to cut down on buzz in the radio so if you find you have a buzzer afterward just put it back on and it should cut it down a fair bit." I don't know if that is your problem or not, but may be something to try. Good Luck! |

Re: Digital Dash Going Crazy!!!
Thanks for the reply but I forgot to mention that it is running an HEI distributor.

Re: Digital Dash Going Crazy!!!
is the body grounded to the frame and the engine grounded to the frame also? sounds like the ignition box or distributor is possibly trying to ground through the gauges some how.

Re: Digital Dash Going Crazy!!!
I called MSD yesterday and they said it sounded like I was getting EMI interference due to a large gap somewhere in the ignition system. I pulled the cap and rotor and seen that the rotor was wore out and looked like it had been arcing. Changed cap and rotor and dash started working normal. Guess I should have replaced them when I put he MSD box in.
