AnyBody Have This Problem

Well it seems like every 3 months i keep burning a spark plug wire on the header i even tried the boot and it still dont work. i thought about switching over to manifolds to get rid of the exhaust leaks and plugs burning, would you recommend switching? or switching to a different brand of headers?

Looks like "Taylor" made that wire too short! I think a longer wire and some good wire looms/guides would make the difference.

well i took the front wire off and put it on the 2nd plug just so you can see how close it is, the wire with the boot goes on that plug but you cant really see how close it is.

There is a different design header with bigger tubing that will prob work better for you. Some wire looms will also help

Im running headman coated on my 81 no problems with the plug wires. My wires are msd and they come in between first two tubes and turn left and right to the plugs with pleanty of clearence in the boots. Can get them uncoated and save some coin. Have run them on several trucks never a problem. John

I'd just heat it up and put a bigger dent in it unless you're going to buy new headers. I haven't ever had fitment problems with flowtech, hedman, or hooker headers.

Just a quick thought... what plugs are you using? I put cheapy flowtech headers on my 350 and am using a Bosch plug, which is as short as an Accel header plug, but available everywhere. Am on the road rite now so I cant get the # of them but I think they are in the Platinum Plus line. My wires clear real good with out denting the pipe.

Those Taylor wires with those large robotic style boots aren't helping you either. I've run these wires before. Going with wires that have your standard 90 degree smooth boot will give you another 1/4" of clearance.

From there it's either, dent the tube more, run a protective boot along with a short amount of header wrap in that area, a different strategy on you plug wire routing (factory looms that route under the headers and along the block and up the back side of the heads at the bellhousing area works nicely and really cleans up the engine bay, these looms are reproduced now) or go with a different brand of header that fits a little better.

I ran Hedman headers on my 350 blazer 4x4 and never had an issue with plug wire clearance.

Most plug manufacturers offer shorter plugs usually in there racing plug lineup. You just have to find the heat range that is best for your engine. Or like stated previously , heat the header tube and dish it to clear the plug wires. I would also get a decent set of wire looms.

Use Corvette wires!! I use Vette wires on my Chevelle headers. They work great!

I have been running Taylor wires on my 84 GMC and the headers that I have are coated, but they look to be the same exact design. The coating on the headers does limit the heat coming from them, but they still get hot.

I do not have an issue with burining my plug wires, but it might also be due to the fact that I use the shortened plugs that ACCEL sells. I have had no issues with the plugs or the wires, since I went to this setup. You can do a dent or dimple on the header tube and not have a performance issue, if you need to.

on my big block i have a few wires that tuch the header but they have a big head on them but i think they are ceramic wires at the head. will see if theree is a name in the am

MSD make a long straight boot wire set. These are bendable to any angle you want. I have used them and been able to bend em where I need em, no troubles. You can bend them by hand or use a phillips screwdriver. I have bought 2 8mm, they are the streetfire set. Local speed shop guy told me about them when I was having the same trouble.
