Spark Plug
Well Its time to do a tune up on the 86 350, not sure what plug to get im running the accel shorrty plugs but gotta maybe go with AC-Delcos what brand is everbody else running also how are the Taylor Street Thunder Wires?

Ac delco is great, I went since 2008 without a tuneup, still ran pretty good. Not sure on the wires.

Used to run Champions. Switched over to Delcos a while back because at the time they were a little cheaper. Haven't switched back.

I drive my BB C20 in the city only so the plugs get carboned up quickly. I buy Champion platinum when they have a rebate (almost all the time) and i get the plugs for free. I have 32 new Champion plugs in the shed now because I "buy" them whenever they are free. I change the plugs once a year due to the carbon problem.
For plug wires, I use only Belden wires. NAPA has Belden wires under their name. All other brands I have tried have had tiny cracks in the boots that were not visible unless you bent the boots and looked closely - the cracks were found only with the help of an engine analyzer in skilled hands. I am going on 8 years in the desert heat with my current NAPA - Belden wires with no problems. They cost more but they are worth it. I don't believe in the whiz-bang super-duper latest technology plugs and plug wire hype. We still have gas guzzling beasts that will not benefit much from fancy fake technology. As long as the truck starts and runs well I am satisfied with my free stuff. |

I agree with tucsonjwt on the plug wires, on top of what he posted, burn one of the whiz- bang super premium racing wire and it can be worse than a cheap set from Auto Zone.
Plugs, I prefer Autolite or AC Delco, depends on what's on sale. IMO, like the wires, a new cheap plug more than likely will out perform old high mileage "TV show" plugs.

If you need to run shorties due to header issues, Autolite AR134 is a shorty that is the eq to a AC R45TS according to Autolite. I run them and have had no where near the fouling as I had with the Accel shorties.

i got accel shorts on their for a while now and have not had a problem but i would rather run ac delcos, BUT how are the Autolites?

My old rule of thumb:
Autolite = FoMoCo Product Champion = Chrysler Product AC = GM product Call me old school I guess.... |

Don't get me wrong ac delco is my first choice, but seeing I have header issues, I can't. The Autolites has been a Godsend after dealing with the Accels. I love them. They are the same exact length as the accel shorties, but I get no where near the fouling.

My old general rule also, until I had a 305 that would do a smoke show at a stoplight without turning a tire. Autolite's didn't seem to foul as quick. Of course running delcos in an old Plymouth...

I'll never run another Champion plug again. I had one literally come apart as I was driving! The ceramic separated from the metal part with the threads, and with a lot of force. It split the boot on my plug wire and sounded like something exploded under my hood. Two of them did it at once, I limped my truck home for 3 miles on 6 cylinders. Run AC Delcos, they work when you need them to!

As I recall, you can get both Autolites and AC Delco for "free" around the same time that the Champions are on sale for "free." For sure, you can get any of the brand name plugs for about $1 per plug most of the time with the rebates going on. I find the auto parts store sales on the day after Thanksgiving usually have plugs for "free." Just like Ace Hardware always has 50/50 Peak antifreeze for $1 or so per gallon in their fall sales circular. I like things I get for free - my shed is full of free or nearly free oil, oil filters, spark plugs, anti freeze, etc. - my old truck also seems to think these free parts are OK.
