refurbished radio finally back in!!
I got the original AM radio refurbished by ElectroDesign, and a new speaker that goes up under the dash from S&M Electro-Tech, Inc. And a new antennea. I finally got them installed and as of today, all works very well. I'm happy to have a radio again. Also got a new cigerette lighter and glove box put in while I was at it. So now everything in the dash works! I highly recommend Jim Rudbeck and ElectroDesign services. They did a great job of refurbishing the radio and it didn't cost that much. The speaker is an exact match for the original that still worked, but was pretty beat up. I was so happy to have good weather enough to get the truck to the mechanic to get the radio put in, that I went and had the truck detailed. It looks great, even for an old truck. now i'm waiting for it to rain!!! ha ha ha.
Car show in Albuquerque this weekend "100 years of Chevy", I hope to have lots of good pics of our trucks to share on Monday. |

Re: refurbished radio finally back in!!
I have a couple of working AM radios, one for each of my trucks but would like to have at least one of them redone. Can you post an approximate figure on cost?
Couple of other questions. One of the reasons I wanted to upgrade mine is that there's a radio station in our area that is 1620 AM but neither of my radios will go that high. Are there any stations out there in the 1600 plus range and does your radio access them? |

Re: refurbished radio finally back in!!
I'll post picts later but I found one of the old FM converters my dad had in our Javelin back in the early 1970's. I knew we had one unless he had thrown it away but either me or him had put it back in some old cubbyholes in the basement, needless to say I was a man on a mission the other nite over there.
Now to get my radio going. Also check Rickwood Radio in Birmingham,Alabama. They work on these radio's.I THINK somewhere in the neighborhood of 150.00. |

That's nice to have the ole original back to like new. See if you can turn up some original knobs and she'll really be back to stock. To me,the radio doesn't ,look stock w/o them.

Re: refurbished radio finally back in!!
special K, what do the original buttons look like? One trouble with getting someone elses truck (my dads) is that I don't know what he did to it that took it away from being stock/original. If you have pics of the original buttons, I'd love to see them. Better yet, if you have some for sale, I'm in.
The cost depends on the radio type, what you want done to it, etc. Mine cost $102. plus shipping. I had the insides cleaned, a couple of electronic parts replaces, I think the dial was repainted, basic stuff. The new speaker cost $50, replica of the original. I don't know if it goes to 1620 AM yet, I haven't had time to play with it yet since i just had it installed yesterday. Hope this helps |

Someone told me my radio didn't go above 1600 because it needed to be adjusted but since both radios do it I figured that's the way they are. Just not sure. |

Re: refurbished radio finally back in!!
The knobs look just like the other dash knobs. I don't have any extras or I'd offer them to you. Check the parts board when someone is parting a truck or just selling the knobs. They aren't that awful hard to find.
Heh heh...the next thread I looked at had this picture: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1337295931

Re: refurbished radio finally back in!!
you guys are awesome, thank you so much for the help. I'll look for original knobs and replace the ones that are on there. Does anyone want the ones that are on there now when I get originals? You're welcome to them.
Th speaker was $60 not $50, sorry. ![]() |

Re: refurbished radio finally back in!!
Special K, I'll send you the knobs when I get the originals. I don't have a clue what they go for,. I'll send you a PM w/my address, just send what you think they're worth to you, no problem. I plan to get the originals ASAP, but I don't know how long that will take. I'll keep you posted. I'm glad the knobs will go to a good home.
