Silverado vs custom deluxe

Was wondering if there is any reason why a person couldnt take a custom deluxe and make it a silverado? What would change and are there any numbers on the truck stating which version it is?

Re: Silverado vs custom deluxe

On a 79? Interesting question. There are quite a few versions that I've seen with subtle differences.

Mine is a Bonanza Special, not sure what makes it different from a Silverado or a Custom or a High Sierra.

My other 77 GMC was a High Sierra with wood simulated interior accents that my 79 Bonanza doesn't have.

Re: Silverado vs custom deluxe

Here's the info kit for '79, which will show the differences between the various trim levels:

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...olet-Truck.pdf

Sure - person could take a base truck and opt it up to a Silverado; they'd have to add carpet, different door trim, headliner and all the interior garnish trim, etc.

Lastly - the only "number" that would denote a Silverado is that it would have it's own unique RPO code (YE9 = Silverado, Z62 = Scottsdale, etc). This would appear on the SPID label, window sticker and invoice.

Re: Silverado vs custom deluxe

My 85 is a Scottsdale, but it had PW, PL, tilt, A/C, etc. So I added the kick panels from a Silverado and the lower door carpet just to dress it up a bit. I get quite a few compliments on the interior and most people don't know the diff.

It is his link, but I think if you change the link to 76 like this it will take you there.

Correct. Here's the general page and then you select which vehicle type and year that you are interested in -

Keith,
I have a 1978 chevy silvardo truck that belonged to my grandfather.
Has everything but power windows. Is that rare?

Probably "rare" in that most folks who ordered a Silverado would've gotten power windows, but probably not more desireable as a result.

Hi 355bullet,

Sounds like our grandfathers made similar choices when ordering their trucks A few years ago, I restored the 77 Sierra Classic (GMC version of the Silverado) that my grandfather bought new. He ordered it with almost every option available except for power windows/locks and AC.
