Axle swap
Here's the issue my 70 k5 has drum brakes and a 12 bolt rear that most likely needs a rebuild. I found a matching set of 10 bolt axles out of a 80s k5. Will the 10 bolt drop drop right in or will I have to move spring perches ? Are the yokes identical? Not sure if anyone has swapped 12 bolt for 10 thanks

Re: Axle swap
I just did this on my 72 K5, remove the dana 44 front and 12 bolt rear for the same type front and rear but out of a 78 blazer.
Front end drops in no problem, but the rear spring mounts will have to be moved inward, and the shock mounts also have to be moved inward and one has to be flipped (73 and up had staggered shocks, 69-72 doesn't). Not that big of a deal if you have a tape measure, angle finder, and a welder. I did it all in an afternoon. One other benefit I got without knowing it until after the fact,,,,is larger rear brakes. |
